Book number one of a three book fantasy science fiction series.-a I
read the well printed and well bound MMPB published by ROC in 2011
that I bought from Amazon in 2025.-a I have ordered the following two
    books in the series.

A long time ago, Homo Nocturnus ruled the Earth.-a They called
themselves Shadowspawn.-a They were the source of all of the myths and
legends about fantastic powers and shapechangers.-a And human blood
    drinkers that we called vampires.

Adrian Br|-z|- is one of the Shadowspawn.-a He gave up their lifestyle
for a life amongst the humans.-a But his twin sister Adrienne has
kidnapped his girlfriend Helen to be a part of her harem of blood Lucys.

The author has a website at:

OK, that is funny and true of a lot of series.

I loved the first four books in Stirling's Emberverse, Dies the Fire,
series. The next eleven books, not so much.

Well I enjoyed most of the series but not the final
books because they had moved too far past the Change.
Also it is a book that posits an evil force in the world
that wants to bring down the good. That is somewhat
off putting but the evil is well described.
More off putting is the simple fact that if the
Change happened I would die probably cannabilized
and the people who ate my flesh would likely get
the damned disease that makes me weak and
tired all the time. Then they too would become
food for the cannabilistic city dwellers and eventually
the whole city would be infected and probably
    consume themselves.

Apparently longpork should be very thoroughly cooked.

I recall my aged aunt's cremation; we'd arrived at the crematorium
a little early so we were milling around in the entranceway outside.

It was a breezy day and a sudden gust of wind sent the smoke from
the cremation before ours wafting amongst us; it smelled just like
    roast pork dinner gone wrong.

Even thoughly cooked the prions that cause brain deterioration
will not be destroyed. This is based on the observations and research
of a cannabalistic tribe where the males got the muscle meat and women
    were allowed to eat brains.
    <https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/prion-disease>
Prion disease (sometimes called transmissible spongiform encephalopathy) causes brain damage that leads to dementia. These symptoms develop
suddenly and worsen quickly. ItrCOs rare, affecting about 1 in 1 million people
    worldwide.

Like the succulent flesh of the blowfish prized by Japanese Gourmets some parts are deadly and every year someone eats the blowfish liver.

The notorious "mad cow disease" is a prion disease. There is a theory
that it was originally a human disease given to cows and retransmitted
    back to humans.

The theory goes something like: somebody decided that bone meal was
a good thing to feed to beef cattle as a growth promoter. Suppliers of
bone meal weren't too picky about where they got their bones from.

The story is that some came from unburnt bones from ritual river-borne cremations which had been washed up on the banks of the River Ganges
in India. They were gleaned by 'bone-pickers', then fed into the bone
    meal food chain.

The human brain disease Kuru found mainly among the Fore tribe in
Papua New Guinea was spread through ritualistic cannibalism, especially
during funeral practices where people consumed the brain tissue of
    deceased relatives.

Scrapie in sheep is a similar disease, although sheep aren't notably cannibalistic.

It's not just cooking. Prions retain their function even when they're autoclaved (121C, 15psi for 20 minutes).

When prions are suspected to be present, best practice (at least when I
read up on it a few years ago) is to boil the contaminated material in
red fuming nitric acid. No thank you, nope nope nope.
