Two episodes, with additional footage, edited into a feature-length
movie to be played cinemas in various countries on Monday, 23 November,
    2026.

    David Tennant's Doctor Who Returns
in an Unexpected Way Later This Year
    ------------------------------------
David Tennant's Doctor Who is making a surprise comeback this fall,
giving longtime fans a chance to experience the classic in a new
way. A special two-part story from Tennant's Tenth Doctor series
will screen in theaters as a newly edited, movie-length
    presentation with additional footage.

BBC Studios, CinemaLive, and Fathom Entertainment announced
Doctor Who: The Satan Pit. It stars Tennant as the tenth
incarnation of the Doctor and Billie Piper as Rose Tyler. The
special feature-length version combines The Impossible Planet and
The Satan Pit from Season 2 of the acclaimed sci-fi series, which
    originally aired in 2006.

Both episodes have been re-edited into one cinematic cut. It will
take place across more than 1,000 screens in the U.S., UK, Ireland,
    Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Check out the official trailer below:

Doctor Who fans get one night to revisit Tennant's Tenth Doctor
While the screening will reach 1,000 cinemas across multiple
countries, fans have only one night on Doctor Who Day to revisit
the newly edited movie feature. The event marks 20 years of the
Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler. However, it's not a simple re-release
of the original episodes, as it comes with additional footage.

The two-part story film cut restores deleted scenes that were
previously available on DVD. It also includes extended footage
with never-before-seen scenes. It also includes an exclusive
retrospective interview with award-winning director James Strong,
    who helmed the aforementioned episodes.

The story follows the Doctor and Rose after the TARDIS lands at
Sanctuary Base 6, a remote station on a planet orbiting the black
hole. "As the base crew uncovers something ancient beneath the
surface, the Doctor and Rose are pulled into one of their darkest
and most unforgettable adventures, facing the terrifying Ood and
an evil older than time itself: the Beast," reads the official
    synopsis.

Tickets [US only?] are now on sale for the 120-minute film through
Fathom's official site and other local outlets.

I guess they were shot in 1080p back then? So would have got the AI interpolation facelift for cinema screens.

No. Those episodes were shot in SD... and later upscaled
for their DVD / Blu-ray release.

So would have got the AI interpolation facelift for cinema
    screen.

I'm sure the BBC have done some sort of additional processing
to make them look good on the big screen.

I hope they don't do what they did with some of the more recent
Doctor Who Collection Blu ray releases though!

That you taped off the TV?

The cinema versions have the deleted scenes (originally
cut for running time reasons) re-inserted.

They were on the DVD / Blu-ray as extras... but are nothing
for anybody to wet their knickers over.

    2006-2010?

    Why shoot in 1080p?
