So not an actual "reboot", but some sort of sequel series.
Longtime X-Files Fans Just Got a 2 Huge Reasons To Get Excited
About the Reboot
--------------------------------------------------------------
The upcoming X-Files reboot from director Ryan Coogler has had
intense speculation among the show's dedicated fanbase. Original
series creator Chris Carter now suggests the new version may not
be a complete change from the past.
Chris Carter says Mulder and Scully could appear in X-Files
reboot
Speaking about the director's cut of The X-Files: I Want to
Believe, Carter addressed whether David Duchovny and Gillian
Anderson would return. "At least Gillian, I think, is going to
appear in the Coogler version. And I'm assuming David will too,
so you will see Mulder and Scully there," Carter told Polygon.
Chris Carter's comments settle a major question surrounding
Coogler's series, which stars Danielle Deadwyler and Himesh Patel.
The X-Files show could operate within the original timeline rather
than starting from scratch. The creator stopped short of
predicting how the reboot might affect his own ambitions. "I don't
know. When I see it, I'll know, and so will the Fox executives,"
he said. "They'll have a sense if these things are going to be in
competition or if they are going to be complementary."
Nonetheless, Carter remains committed to continuing the story
himself. "I would love to do either another reboot, or another
movie," he added. "My ideas going forward are big ideas. Whether
they're a TV series or a movie, I don't know, but I have big
plans."
After all, the second reason fans have to celebrate is on
August 14. Chris Carter's re-edited version of the 2008 movie,
titled The X-Files: I Want to Believe - Vrach Frankenshteyn,
debuts on Hulu and Disney Plus that day. This cut differs from the
previous theatrical release. Carter removed references to Mulder's
sister Samantha and Scully's son William. He also deleted two
romantic scenes between the leads. Now, the new version restores
his original vision of a standalone horror story.
All in all, despite Ryan Coogler's involvement, Carter wants room
for both visions. "I don't want to get in the way of him and his
vision, in any way, so I'm hoping he can do what he's doing, and
I can do what I want to do," he told Men's Journal. "I want to
believe."
