This is something that has appeared on my screen in the last month or so.

It seems to me they are trying to knit too many story-lines into one
Series that makes it difficult to follow.

Interesting storyline though. Earth v Asteroid Belt Settlements v Mars

It was cancelled by the WWE channel and then Amazon took it over and completely ruined it from series 4 to 6 by ignoring the main plotline
from the books and filling it with nothing by boring irrelevant soap
opera including one episode which consisted entirely one of the
characters repeating the exact same routine over and over again for a

Ah, I''d heard good things about the series but I also heard the converse. That might explain it. Well, I got something from the group after all.

We currently do group watches of the oldest seasons, including the animated parts and they're quite fun. It's a bit spotty, we do a lot of other free stuff and riff them.

It obviously wasn't that popular because the almighty ratings were bad

I think it was better than just "okay"...but by the 5th season, yes, you

We have a dishwasher that was part of the new house build, but it has

by hand. The dishwasher itself is obviously a cheap one, since the
control panel has come loose making it difficult to turn on and off -
reading online, it's a known fault with the model due to the cheap
plastic used deteriorating, which when you consider how rearely we used
it, just shows how bad a manufacturing decision it was.

They ran out of ideas after season one or two. After that they were

A bit like the last season of Game of Thrones.

There are lots of shows originally designed to be a one-off series, but
prove so popular that they try to stretch it out into more seasons.

OMG, really? That's hilarious. I'm not totally shocked. In that era, a
lot of stupid crap was mislabelled as educational to get it past the
    White House.

They later cracked down on "educational" shows which allegedly taught
the value of teamwork by showing good guys beating up bad guys which led
to the era of the loathed Very Special Episode. I don't think I've ever

You mean Galactica 1980? I remember that! I was a little kid, and I
watched it because it was SF, but it was so bad.

It didn't really have anything to do with Battlestar Galactica. The
premise was that the ships had reached Earch and it turned out that
Earth had lower gravity than all their worlds, so on Earth they have
great strength and (somehow) some other powers. The show was about a
bunch of kids from the ship, living on Earth, with powers.

There was also time travel where they fought the Nazis and silly flying
motorcycles (as if nobody would see them). :-\

I don't remember the plots very well. There was one where the kids
joined a baseball team, but I think that was some kind of ploy for the
adults to catch some bad guys.

I don't think they had a good idea of what they wanted to do with the
show. The ragtag fleet finally finding Earth could have been very
interesting, at least enough for a thoughtful movie, maybe even
continuing the series. Instead, we got Galactica 1980.

I remember reading that Gal80 was intended to teach kids history.

I don't think I've ever
seen a VSE which was a genuinely good episode of its show, though some
    were worse than others.

    Now that is funny.

A bit like the last season of Game of Thrones.

Very disappointing as well. I'm watching 'House of Dragons' atm, but I

They would have to really drop the ball to end it THAT badly!

To be honest: I thought I was watching the last season already, so I
found it very strange that so many questions were left unanswered. Now
it appears there's going to be a 5th and last season. By the time that's available I'm probably going to need to watch a decent recap, because I

Not necessarily "educational content", but in the 70's the
first/earliest hour slot in prime time was reserved for "family
oriented" material, with the more mature stuff airing after the kids
were in bed (at least on paper). It was never a requirement, just
understood that things were to be scheduled like this. The
understanding gradually disappeared during the 80's.

But it wasn't Glen A. Larsen's intent to make an educational show. He
was simply trying to make a sequel to the original "Battlestar
Galactica" series with the Galactica reaching Earth. Originally it was
meant to be Apollo and Starbuck who land on Earth, but Dirk Benedict
was busy elsewhere and Richard Hatch didn't like the script, so neither
were available and the show moved to being the adult Boxey and his
    sidekick instead.

It was the network's decision to broadcast it in a particular timeslot
that then (supposedly) required some degree of "educational content".

    Such are changes.

The real "Battlestar Galactica" only had one season.-a :-p
(Plus an awful sequel show that was also only one season.)

There was also time travel where they fought the Nazis and silly flying
motorcycles (as if nobody would see them).-a :-\

I don't remember the plots very well. There was one where the kids
joined a baseball team, but I think that was some kind of ploy for the
adults to catch some bad guys.

I don't think they had a good idea of what they wanted to do with the
show. The ragtag fleet finally finding Earth could have been very
interesting, at least enough for a thoughtful movie, maybe even
continuing the series. Instead, we got Galactica 1980.

I remember reading that Gal80 was intended to teach kids history.

    Stop laughing, I'm serious.

Say WHAT?? Teaching kid the History of the yet to occur FUTURE!!

Sure. The Kids might have been better off watching Bonanza from 60 years
ago!! They might have 'Learned' something about The Wild West!! ;-P

The "educational" story is nonsense, but if it wasn't, the original
idiotic idea for the show involved lots of time travel as they chased
Baltar through history correcting his changes ... so lots of historical education possibilities (although Baltar's changes would have made it confusing for kids as to what was real history).

It seems to me that, back in the 60's, you were lucky to really know the
kids in the next street, let alone the kids in the next Suburb. The idea
that there might actually be beings 'out there', when we had just
started reaching for the Stars was waaaaayyy out there!!

So 'Doctor Who' was "normalising" Earthlings that look a bit different
    by presenting ET's to us.
