It was cancelled by the WWE channel and then Amazon took it over and completely ruined it from series 4 to 6 by ignoring the main plotline
from the books and filling it with nothing by boring irrelevant soap
opera including one episode which consisted entirely one of the
characters repeating the exact same routine over and over again for a
whole hour trying to stop herself suffocating by berating air from a
space suit or something.

She had a suit but no air tank, so had to live on the air in the suit
for brief periods while she worked on an escape plan in a part of the
ship that was in vacuum, requiring frequent trips back into the
pressurised part.
Maybe it went on a bit but it was straight from the book.

I didn't think it was *hard* to follow with all those story-lines.
With that said, one does have to actively pay attention while watching.
You can't have the show on in the background while washing the dishes...otherwise you will get lost.

"not enough people watching it" *IS* the ratings (or at least that's
how management believes viewer numbers are measured) ... and ratings
equals making money because more viewers means they can charge more for

You mean Galactica 1980? I remember that! I was a little kid, and I
watched it because it was SF, but it was so bad.
It didn't really have anything to do with Battlestar Galactica. The
premise was that the ships had reached Earch and it turned out that
Earth had lower gravity than all their worlds, so on Earth they have
great strength and (somehow) some other powers. The show was about a
bunch of kids from the ship, living on Earth, with powers.
There was also time travel where they fought the Nazis and silly flying
motorcycles (as if nobody would see them). :-\
I don't remember the plots very well. There was one where the kids
joined a baseball team, but I think that was some kind of ploy for the
adults to catch some bad guys.
I don't think they had a good idea of what they wanted to do with the
show. The ragtag fleet finally finding Earth could have been very interesting, at least enough for a thoughtful movie, maybe even
continuing the series. Instead, we got Galactica 1980.
Each episode is just another lame rehash of the same old

OMG, really? That's hilarious. I'm not totally shocked. In that era, a
lot of stupid crap was mislabelled as educational to get it past the
White House.
They later cracked down on "educational" shows which allegedly taught
the value of teamwork by showing good guys beating up bad guys which led
to the era of the loathed Very Special Episode. I don't think I've ever
seen a VSE which was a genuinely good episode of its show, though some
were worse than others.

Not in any real sense. *Supposedly* the early timeslot the show played
in (in America) meant that it had to have "educational content", but in reality that simply means showing things like co-operation, problem- solving, etc. which is where the Space Scouts nonsense came in.
The "teach history" is complete nonsense. The original idea for the show
was to have more time travel as they chased Baltar through history, but
the network didn't like that idea, so only the couple of Nazi episodes remained.

Not necessarily "educational content", but in the 70's the
first/earliest hour slot in prime time was reserved for "family
oriented" material, with the more mature stuff airing after the kids
were in bed (at least on paper). It was never a requirement, just >understood that things were to be scheduled like this. The
understanding gradually disappeared during the 80's.

But it wasn't Glen A. Larsen's intent to make an educational show. He
was simply trying to make a sequel to the original "Battlestar
Galactica" series with the Galactica reaching Earth. Originally it was
meant to be Apollo and Starbuck who land on Earth, but Dirk Benedict
was busy elsewhere and Richard Hatch didn't like the script, so neither
were available and the show moved to being the adult Boxey and his
sidekick instead.
It was the network's decision to broadcast it in a particular timeslot
that then (supposedly) required some degree of "educational content".

The "educational" story is nonsense, but if it wasn't, the original
idiotic idea for the show involved lots of time travel as they chased
Baltar through history correcting his changes ... so lots of historical >education possibilities (although Baltar's changes would have made it >confusing for kids as to what was real history).
