One common motif is that the recipients of the bionic prostheses saw
themselves as somehow less than human.

    I never understood that ...

Not really anything to do with bioincs as such. Many amputees and

    Cool

As usual, the original "The Bionic Woman" was much better than the
awful reboot version which for some silly reason starred a British
ex-soap actor who couldn't act (and hence is back on the same soap
again). Thankfully the reboot was quickly cancelled again. :-\

They were still mourning the loss of important parts of their natural
bodies. The prosthesis doesn't eliminate how one reacts to major trauma.

That may have been the only thing that was realistic.

The novel's title was literally Cyborg.

At the end of the the 1987 movie, RoboCop, nearly a full body replacement, accepted he couldn't live Murphy's life any longer. Not sure he still saw himself as all that human any longer.

Michele Ryan was good in both Merlin and Doctor Who.
Now, Katie Sackoff, she stunk up the screen

Ryan made a Frankenstein movie IrCOve never seen. Hmmm

One key difference being, the rCLbionicrCY prostheses were so realistic
    that nobody could tell.

The person with the bionics still knows though, and it's in their mind
that the problem is. It's also not helped every time they go wrong and something happens like bursting a tennis ball trying to pick it up. :-)
