The movie is for real. IAve seen the trailer covered this week on
various film nerd channels I watch.
This is the official trailer.

Matt Dillon as Frank Sr. One of the Farrelly brothers directs.
oThe Odysseyo will be the high water mark of Woke, and then Hollywood
will have to rediscover how to make money.
So the next Stallone biopic will be oI Play Ramboo. Then the next will
be oI Play Judge Dreddo.
Just in case this is relevant. I haven't streamed /The Odyssey/ yet.
And, at nearly 3 hours, it may be a while before I do.
There is also the minor detail that, seeing a list of the director's
other films -- well, let's just say that /Batman Begins/ /alone/ is a
strong argument against watching it. Particularly at nearly 3 hours.
But there are a couple things that (if correct, this is all IIRC)
might or might not be relevant to whatever "woke" is a reference to:
1. Graves, in /The Greek Myths/ records some of the Ancients stating
that Helen came from Egypt.
2. Herodotus asserts that Colchis was founded by Egypt and so
populated by Egyptians.
3. Gibbon asserts that this means they were Black. Which would mean
that a Black Helen of Troy might not have been an entirely unknown
possibility in the past.
The complaints about language are ... weird. What are they supposed to
speak? Homeric Greek? If so, are subtitles to be allowed?
Or is this a reference to the old movie tradition for "sand and
sandals" movies to have the bad guys use a British accent (and/or have
brown eyes) and the good guys an American accent (and/or have blue
eyes)?
Or is the problem that they are speaking in prose and not in poetry?
IOW, is this about how to translate poetry?
(The stories themselves are, of course, poetry in dactylic hexameter.)
