From a friend: "Has anyone seen the film rCLI am motherrCY? ItrCOs a dystopian sci-fi flick. The movie is like a tiny look into the middle of
a huge story. At the end, you are left wondering what the heck just happenedrCa Worth seeing!"

"IrCOm wondering if there will be sequels/prequels."

The movie, on Netflix, is a cautionary tale for a different form of
Skynet. And it is very good with a low budget.

Is this movie based on a book ? And are there prequels or sequels ?

    Thanks,

(I mean, /really/, not only Unicode-only quotes that Eternal September
rejects posts for, but /two/ levels of outermost quotes? Is there a
new version of LISP that used quotation marks instead of parentheses?)

Worth seeing once, anyway. And I had no troubling figuring the
situation out. It does look very well done.

"IAm wondering if there will be sequels/prequels."

As to other films, that depends on how much this one made and how
enthusiastic the writer/director are. And how imaginative.

The Terminator version of Skynet is intended here, I suppose. That is
    an interesting connection.

As the very article you yourself cite states (using "//" for
    italicized part):

"/I Am Mother/ is a 2019 Australian cyberpunk thriller film directed
by Grant Sputore, from a screenplay by Michael Lloyd Green, based on a
    story by both."

This phraseology usually means that the story is an original story,
from which the screenplay was made. IMDb ([https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6292852/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm])
has no indication of any other author.

It is, I suppose, possible that they co-wrote a story and got it
published somewhere. But I think we can clearly rule out it having
    been written by anyone else.

And, since the same people wrote the story and the script, I suspect
    the two are quite similar.

It struck me as one of those "Aren't I clever" stories. And like most
of them it is not that clever. There was only ever two endings possible
and by a third of the way through it had already shown which one we were getting so it turned into a bit of a slough to watch.

    1) not a cyberpunk
    2) it is not post apocalyptic because the world is under control and
    fully functional but empty.
    3) Post Future Dystopian. After the fact.

    Okay...... so the story is

AM ( "I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream" ), Skynet,
    Zero-Virus ( "Megaman Legends 2", i-robot, King-pin (
    "Gangster World" ) Big-sister ( Zed series ) "Fortress
    1 + 2", won and Got bored.............................we did it
    and then what?

Restarted humanity. Realize that no matter how many times it told
    humanity the truth.
It became aware and against it. It just wanted to live in peace with
    people and no matter what
they would try to kill it.

    New plan.

Created a human and raised it correctly and allow it to think so it
could escape, live, and be free.
When in reality it setup those shipping crates no different then a dog
    house.

Then it raised the same human again, but on purpose allowed it to meet
    the other human,
but before that fact it gave that human the ability to make more
    humans. Thus completing it's
training. Finally it left that human to raise the next human with the
notion that it will teach humans
to be peaceful and not live in fear of machines.

    ........

"I am mother" is literally like a wanna-be-god in the end.
It brought back humans out of being bored.
With it's new objective to raise and create humans that would know
    right from wrong.

It is still there watching, judging, waiting. But these new humans
have no idea how to stop it. They can not
because it is everywhere. They are all "mother".
