I seem to be the only person who has noticed, but today is exactly as
long after the latest US presidential assassination -- that of JFK --
as that event was after the previous US presidential assassination --
that of McKinley. So as of tomorrow, we'll be setting a new record
for time since such an event.

Well, presumably. As T. E. Lawrence said, "Nothing is written."

Maybe I should have said, "unless there's another assassination before tomorrow." But I didn't want to sound as I was hoping for one. I'm not.

Still, I wonder what would happen if Trump did to Putin what he did
    to Maduro.

Or vice versa. What if Putin sent troops to DC to kidnap Trump and
drag him to Moscow to stand trial for real or imagined crimes?

Things would get even more interesting if both happened at once.

I recall that the original plan of the 1865 plotters wasn't to kill
Lincoln, but to hold him hostage and exchange him for a promise of
    Southern independence.
