Randall Garrett used to relate finding out after WW2 that
"Clement" didn't know how to drive. So he and a couple of other
authors set out to teach him. At one point, he was coming up
behind some slow or stopped traffic and Clement started trying to
pull back the steering wheel. When called on it he said that that
always worked for him before...
