    Particle Man #4
    =====================

Particle Man #4: The Cross-Post Caper

Particle Man was near the threshold of panic. "How long was I unconscious?!"
"It's impossible to say," Blue Canary answered. "Doctor Stomper did
warn of time fluctuations, though a disturbance of this magnitude wasn't expected. However, though I can not say when we are, I can do a quick
flight and see if anyone else is about."
"Please," Particle Man responded. Blue Canary took flight and was
quickly out of sight. Particle Man sat heavily on the glassy ground.
How had his entire world been destroyed? Was he the sole survivor? The
lab from which he had emerged was the only fairly intact structure for
    miles.
"The Legion certainly builds stuff to last. No, that should be
    'built'. Oh, god..."
"Good news!" Blue Canary piped as he came to a rest on Particle
Man's shoulder. "I've found survivors! Just two, mind you, but they're Legionnaires!"
Particle Man hoped with all his heart that those last two hadn't
been the architechts of the world's destruction. "Well, lead the way."

"Survivors approach, Ninja," a battle-weary Kid Kirby announced to
Ultimate Ninja. "Perhaps my previous scans were faulty somehow. I'm
    sure something's wrong now."
"Maybe not," Ultimate Ninja conjectured as he stood to his full
height. "Maybe they want to overrun the ruins of this world just as
they destroyed it." Ultimate Ninja drew a precious handful of Ninja
bush from his belt pouch. He had to be careful with it, for if he ran
out there would be no more.
"Kid Kirby?! Ultimate Ninja?!" Particle Man cried. "What
    happened?! Who did this?!"
"Particle Man?" Kid Kirby asked, surprised. "But, how...?"
"It doesn't matter," Ultimate Ninja interrupted, clenching
Multi-Tasking Man's gauntlets into fists before him. "What matters now
is that we're three strong for our vengeance. They _will_ pay for this."
"They?" Particle Man asked. "Who are they?!"
"Then you really don't remember?" Kid Kirby asked. Then he sighed
for the first time Particle Man had seen. "I'll tell you, then. It
seems that our world, our Looniverse, intersected the RACM worlds. The RACelestials, led by the Scowling RACelestial, who patrol those worlds,
took extreme offense at what they perceived as the ultimate waste of
bandwidth, namely us. They came in swarms, and, with Continuity Champ
dead, we didn't have a chance." Kid Kirby paused.
"It was the Legion's finest hour," Ultimate Ninja continued, his
dark eyes shining. "We stood together as one, evacuating Net.Ropolis
and fighting the ultimate enemy. They killed them all. I watched
Cannon Fodder suffer the Final Death. Sing-Along Lass and Parking Karma
Lad died driving a busload of kids out of the battle zone. Only my
ultimate ninja skills kept me alive as I made my way closer to those
damned RACelestials. That's when the sky lit up like some kind of
supernova. I could barely make out Kid Kirby as he unleashed his full
power at the RACelestials, and he actually wounded one! It was
terrible, though, and now I know why he never lost control before then.
I saw buildings, trees, roads, and cars go up into flame as they were
blasted back from Kid Kirby. I assumed that he was protecting me and
the others, but there were no others. The other RACelstials focussed
their might upon Kid Kirby and blasted him straight up into space.
That's when the others came to fight the enemy. Generic Man, the Good
Guys, the Legion of Net.Villains, They Might Be Villains, Halls Jordan.
They all fought...and they all died. Then, that damned big scowling RACelestial came down from space and gave the planet the thumbs down.
This huge wave of energy raced off toward the horizon, leaving
devastation in its path. Then, they left, and I couldn't do a damned
thing until Kid Kirby got back two days later."
"Two days-?" Particle Man asked. "Kid Kirby?!"
"They knocked me unconscious," Kid Kirby answered. "I returned
moments before you joined us. Now, we must destroy the RACelestials."
"Destroy?!" Particle Man interjected. "Are you crazy? They just
destroyed all the life above the protozoan level on the planet, and you
    want to go after them?"
"We must," Ultimate Ninja. "In case you didn't notice, the Legion
is dead!" He drew Kid Anarky's claymore to underscore his sentence.
"For honor's sake, we must destroy the murderers of our allies!"
"Yes," Kid Kirby continued. "Now, we are Legion, for we are many!"
"Wait, Kid Kirby," Particle Man began. "You're cosmic. What do you
    care for one world?"
"This is the world of my birth, and the world upon which walked
those few in the cosmos whom Kid Kirby did name as his friends. They
shall _not_ go unavenged." Kid Kirby's eyes glowed with barely
    contained rage.
"Ultimate Ninja, they'll kill you for sure!" Particle Man continued, appealing to the second of the survivors. "You can't seriously want to
    do this."
"I have nothing but my thirst for vengeance," Ultimate Ninja
answered coldly. "I cannot stand by doing nothing while those
self-imposed universal mediators go around destroying whatever they
don't like! They destroyed an entire Looniverse just because it
intersected theirs! Now, either you stand with us or stand alone."
    "I...I'm with you, I suppose."
"Good," Ultimate Ninja replied as he handed a rediculously large gun
to Particle Man. "Master Blaster probably would've wanted you to have
    this."
"Well, when are we leaving?" Particle Man asked.
"Look down," Ultimate Ninja replied. Particle Man did so and, upon
seeing the blasted husk of Net.Earth dropping away, gasped.
"You are enclosed in my 'Kirby Field'," Kid Kirby answered the
unasked question. "Upon your wrist you will notice a bracer. Do not
tamper with it, for it is a 'cosmic vocorder', and it shall enable we
three to communicate should we become separated." Particle Man brought
his wrist up before his face, admiring the KirbyTech.
    "Groovy," he noted.
"Enough!" Kid Kirby declared. "Now prepare yourself
for...hyperspace!" With that, the world outside of the spherical 'Kirby
Field' turned itself inside out. Particle Man tried, unsuccessfully, to process what his eyes were telling him, then occupied himself with familiarizing himself with the Master Blaster gun as Ultimate Ninja
checked over the vast number of weapons that he was carrying in his
battered trenchcoat and his ninja garb.

"We are here," Kid Kirby announced as space righted itself. Close
by loomed several two thousand foot tall armored beings. Their helmets betrayed no expression, save for a slight scowl.
"I'll never get used to this sort of thing," Particle Man muttered, awestruck.
"Attack!" Ultimate Ninja commanded as a mentholyptus field
surrounded him. In an instant, he streaked off toward his enemies, his
    eyes filled with hate.
"Wait!" Particle Man implored as Kid Kirby also streaked off toward
    the RACelestials. "Damn it all!"
*Move!* Blue Canary mentally shouted from the little birdhouse in
Particle Man's soul. Particle Man obliged as a bolt of cosmic power as
wide as a house narrowly missed him.
"I can move by thought alone!" Particle Man noted offhandedly.
*And your field is self-sustaining,* Blue Canary added. *However,
you won't be thinking much longer if you don't get your mind back on
    what your doing!*
"Oh, right," replied a decidedly chagrined Particle Man. He
observed with fading hope as Ultimate Ninja fired Multi-Tasking Man's
power gauntlets augmented by a Power Ring-Around-The-Collar augmented by Contraption Man's future tech. The onslaught was ignored. Kid Kirby
looked like a rogue star as he let his power build. Then, all at once,
the seething energies rushed forth, bathing one of the RACelestials in
the glory that was the 'Power Kirby. The onslaught was ignored.
"Die!" Particle Man heard Ultimate Ninja cry, dodging reflected
power bolts while unleashing more futile attacks. Particle Man fired a
few shots from his own gun, thankful for the built-in inertial dampeners.
"This is useless," Particle Man lamented. "We're wielding enough
power to destroy a continent or two, and they're ignoring us." Two more
shots from his gun lit local space.
*They've destroyed worlds,* Blue Canary responded. *There's no way
that you'll beat them using brute force. However...*
    "Oh, no!"
*You know what I'm about to suggest. Implementing it, however, is
    your choice.*
Particle Man sighed. "All right. Kirby! Ninja!" he called.
    "Here," Kid Kirby responded.
"Make it quick!" Ultimate Ninja snapped.
"I'm about to fire a bullet! Feed as much power into it as you can!"
"We've nothing to lose," Kid Kirby replied. Ultimate Ninja snarled
in agreement. Particle Man carefully opened the manual feed on his gun,
then inserted a sapphire bullet of pure love. Taking aim on one of the RACelestials, he set the gun on maximum power.
"Now!" he commanded, firing the glowing bullet. Wasting no time,
Kid Kirby and Ultimate Ninja fired their own energies at the bullet with unerring accuracy. Triply charged and beyond, the hurtling projectile
impacted it's target and, with a small flash, was ignored.
"Damn!" Ultimate Ninja spat. "Open fire!"
"No!" Particle Man interrupted. "Look!" The RACelestial was
turning toward Particle Man, a look of what could only be pure love on
    it's armored face.
"What did you do?!" Ultimate Ninja asked.
"Emotion manipulation," Kid Kirby noted. "Interesting."
"WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE ME DO, MY LOVE?" the RACelestial intoned,
    nearly deafening Particle Man.
"Your companions threaten me and mine!" Particle Man replied,
shaking the pain out of his ears. "Would you please destroy them for
    me?"
    "I SHALL!"
The stars faded out as the rogue RACelestial targeted one of it's
fellows and unleashed it's destructive energies toward the other,
    damaging the other severely.
"The stars!" Particle Man cried. "What happened to the stars?!"
"Fear not," Kid Kirby answered. "The 'Kirby Field' has dimmed to
protect mortal vision from the unearthly energies being unleashed."
"Can you snag another one?" Ultimate Ninja asked anxiously as the
rogue RACelestial finished it's target off and took aim at another. The
other RACelestials began to turn toward the rogue.
"No!" Particle Man cried. "I can only do one at a time, and it's
taking all my power just to keep that one under control. Only the
massive added energy got the bullet through all that armor. That and
the fact that it wasn't even viewed as an attack. They'll be on their
guard against another shot like that."
The RACelestials pulled a certain component from the rogue,
rendering it immobile. Then, they turned toward Particle Man.
"Damn, damn, damn!" Particle Man cursed. Nowhere to run, and no way
    to attack effectively.
"What's wrong?" Ultimate Ninja asked, a hint of hope in his voice.
"We have first blood! We're-" Particle Man flinched as a bolt of
energy shot past him from behind, vaporizing Ultimate Ninja in spite of
the 'Kirby Field' surrounding him. Kid Kirby, to his credit, lasted a
full ten seconds against the barrage.
"Kirby...is...forever!" he managed to declare before he, too, was
gone. Particle Man slowly turned and looked into a face so huge that it dwarfed even the RACelestials. It was a scowling face. Particle Man
gulped audibly. Then he brought his gun to bear on the unimaginably
    huge Scowling RACelestial.
"You want some!?" Particle Man shouted. His enemy's expression
didn't change. Suddenly, Particle Man felt as though his body were
being disassembled atom by atom. "BEGONE, OUTSIDER," was the last thing
he heard before he blacked out...

Particle Man awoke in a dark city street. He slowly rose to his
feet as he recognized where he was.
"Net.Ropolis!" he cried. "I'm back! That must've been an alternate future, or another dimension, or-"
"Halt!" a heavily modulated voice commanded. Particle Man turned to
face a man hovering in KirbyTech armor with the patented chinstrap
    helmet.
"Why're all the streetlights out?" Particle Man asked. "Is there a blackout or something? Wait a minute! Who are you?"
"Do you seek to insult my intelligence?!" the armored man asked.
"You are under arrest for breaking curfew!"
"Curfew?! You're crazy, you can't arrest me for breaking curfew
    because there _is_ no curfew!"
"You can add a charge of defying the Kirbian Police to that, bright
    boy!"
"Kirbian-?" Particle Man gulped. "Oh, boy..."
