And we're back in the past and can check the eyrie archive
    once again.

Here's where you can find this and more Panta Action!:

    https://archives.eyrie.org/racc/lnh/Series/Tales.LNH/

And it's Tales of the LNH #299 by Hubert Bartels!
The Conclusion of the BloodKitty Saga!

Tales of the LNH #299 I think might have been the
first LNH story I ever read back in the day (It's
that or maybe an issue of Pigs in Space or some
part of the whole Looniverse Adrift Saga). But
regardless, I really enjoyed it and went on to
read every other LNH story I could find.

Anyways, Panta recovers from her Ultimate Ninja
battle -- but could've it been worse?! Like
maybe a Special Bonding Boy vs Panta brawl?!!
And will someone quote John Steinbeck?!!!!!

    Find out in...

    #299: A New Beginning.

[ In Tales of the LNH #298, Panta gets accepted into the Legion of Net.
Heroes after a exam by Ultimate Ninja that left her knocked out cold.]

The darkness faded, lights stopped spinning, and the sound of a thousand
bees went away. Panta groaned, and slowly opened her eyes.

    "Ah, you are awake now."

"Oww. Where am I? Who are you?" The leopard-girl tried to uncross her eyes.

"I am Doctor Stomper. You are in your room at the Legion of Net.Heroes. With
me is List Lad and Organic Lass who helped me put you to bed."

Panta put a furry hand to her forehead. She was in her bed in the little
    room
next to water heater in the basement. "What happened?"

"There, there, girl," Dr. Stomper said. "You need some more rest. Your entry fight with Ultimate Ninja was quite stressful."

"Ultimate Ninja?" Panta mused. Slowly, the memories came back; the thrusts
and parries, the flying leaps and midair exchanges of blows. And the final trick that defeated her."

"...not quite what I expected," Dr. Stomper was saying when Panta was again paying attention. "Ordinarily, Ultimate Ninja would have not condescended
to fighting with swords only. He would use Ninja Bush!"

"Ninja Bush..." Panta said slowly. "If he had, I'da had a much harder time.
I'd be jumping around, trying to keep away from it rather than attacking..." She nestled deeper into her blanket, pulling the sheets up to her nose.
"Still, I'd rather test under Ultimate Ninja then some of the other
    LNH'ers."

"Why is that?" Organic Lass said. Doctor Stomper was closing up his medical bag. Several other LNH'ers entered the small room and found places to sit
on the boxes of assorted bureaucratic forms.

"Well." Panta said. "Kid Kirby, for example. How would I even get close
to something he'd build. Or, Occultism Kid. I'd end up fighting something
slimy with tentacles. Or, worst of all. Special Bonding Boy."

"Special Bonding Boy?" Doctor Stomper asked.

"Special Bonding Boy wouldn't fight at all. He'd just stand there and... it would be like being slowly suffocated in a pile of perfumed Care Bears.
Ughhh!" Panta shuddered under her blanket.

"Now, that's alright. Just rest. I believe that List Lad has a few questions for you now." Doctor Stomper stood up and let the keeper of the LNH
    membership
roster kneel next to the bed. Behind him, Curly entered the room.

"Why?" Panta asked. "Is there a problem?"

"Oh, no. I just need to clarify one thing. Are you a NWC or a WC?"

"I'm not a NWC," Panta stated firmly, "and I'm not a WC, since my writer
    isn't
    a short furry cat-girl with a tail. I'm a self-character."

    "Self-character?" List Lad asked, confused.

"Um, let me quote you something." Panta paused as if in thought and then quoted,
'"A novel may be said to be the man who writes it. Now it is
always true that a novelist, perhaps unconsciously, identifies himself
with one chief or central figure in his novel. Into this character he
puts not what he thinks he is, but what he hopes to be. We call this
spokesman the self-character. You will find one in every one of my
    books
and in the novels of everyone I can remember." John Steinbeck, Letter
to Chase Horton, April 26, 1957, printed in his 'The Acts of King
    Arthur
    and His Noble Knights'.
and that's what I am." She smiled.

"I don't know," List Lad said. "Regular LNH'ers are either NWC's or WC's.
You'd have to stay a probationary LNH member until you decide what you are."

Panta looked unhappy. "But Bandwagon Boy said that I would be welcome at the Legion of Net.Heroes anytime..." [Tales of the LNH #295 ]

The only sound in the room was the sound of Dr. Stomper's medical bag
    crashing
to the floor. "Bandwagon Boy? Where did you see him?"

"At the Comics Convention. Organic Lass, you were there. He was standing
    right
    there next to you."

"No," Organic Lass said. "Sardonic Boy came with us to the Comics
    Convention."

"Curly," Panta turned to her large but stupid friend. "Who was with you when you came to see me? The day before yesterday?"

"Bicycle Repair Lad. He bring tube of rubber glue to fix Curly's toy."

Panta looked at another person she recognized. "Mainstream Man, when you
    came
to get that copy of 'BloodKitty #1'..."

"I know it was California Kid. We met him right outside the LNH door, don't
    you remember, Organic Lass?"

"Mainstream Man, reading all those Marvel retcon's has begun to affect your mind. It was Sardonic Boy!"

    "California Kid!" Mainstream Man shouted.

"You are all wrong!", Pliable Lad shouted into the crowd. "Entropy Kid
came with us to the comics convention."

"This is all very strange," Dr. Stomper mused, picking up his medical bag. Around him, the various LNH'ers were arguing loudly. There was a whiff of lighter fluid in the air.

Suddenly, Panta stood up on her bed, letting her blanket slide to the floor. "SHUT UP! ALL OF YOU!"

"Panta," Organic Lass whispered into the shocked silence. "You aren't
    wearing anything..."

"She ain't wearing no pants!" some voice said from the crowd.

Panta grinned sheepishly, reached down and snatched up the blanket to an
echo of Awww's from the audience. Then she turned to Organic Lass. "Why
not ask Bandwagon Boy himself where he was that day?"

"Because no one's seen Bandwagon Boy for weeks now." Doctor Stomper said.
"And I think that's enough excitment for you today." He waved at the crowd. "Out! Out! This isn't a peepshow!"

"That's what he thinks," someone said, going out the door. He was passed
on the way in by a figure in a dark trenchcoat. The trenchcoated figure
    waited
until the room was almost empty before coming closer.

"That's an interesting way to get a crowd's attention," the figure said.

"Oh?", Panta said, turning to face this newcomer. By now, the only ones
left in the room were Curly and Pliable Lad.

"'Oh?' Is that any way to greet an old friend" the figure said.

"You're not that Stranger again," Panta said, flattening her ears. Her tail lashed back and forth.

"Would you lend a fuzzy pink trenchcoat to a Stranger?"

"KID ANARKY!" Panta roared before pouncing on him. The blanket swirled
    behind
her as she lept across the tiny room to her oldest friend in the LNH.

Kid Anarky squirmed. Panta's warm hugs were bad enough, but the leopard girl wasn't wearing anything but her fur at the moment. What if Self-Righteous Preacher were to come in? What if he were to caught in another 'Woody
    Scandal'
like the one that almost put an end to Lost Cause Boy. [Integrity Quest]. Regretfully, he pushed himself away from her warm, furry body with her
    smooth,
slender lines, her breasts, her perfectly shaped legs, and tried to think of something else.

"Kid Anarky!" Panta bounced in front of him. "I'm so glad that you're back!"

Kid Anarky wished that Panta would stop bouncing in front of him. It was
    hard
to think of something else with her like that. Wasn't Pliable Lad
    snickering?

"Panta!" Pliable Lad finally said in his best imitation of a doctor's voice. "You heard Dr. Stomper. You should get back into bed. You need to sleep."

"OK." Panta laid down and pulled the blanket back up to her nose. "It's hard
    to believe we're all together."

    "Together?" Kid Anarky said.

"Yes. Pliable Lad. Curly," Panta tilted her head at her stupid friend, "and
me. And you, Kid Anarky. The Net.Patrol." Panta smiled from between the
    sheets.
"I just wish Lost Cause Boy could be here too..."

"Errrrrmmm!" A tall dark form was silhouetted against the door. "I know that you are planning something," Self-Righteous Preacher sneered. "I will find
    out
what it is. And stop it! So wipe those silly smiles off your sinning faces
and repent." He scowled at the group for a moment longer before shuffling
off to yell at someone else.

Kid Anarky's heart started again. Had the preacher come a moment earlier, hadn't Pliable Lad gotten Panta back into bed, .... the consequences would
have been too horrible to imagine.

"Curly don't like him." Curly said before returning to studying his thumb.

"Kid Anarky?" Panta looked up from her bed.

    "Yes, Panta?"

"You didn't happen to bring back my fuzzy pink trenchcoat, did you?"
