#35 -- Reactions
Deja Dude and Julie Lee are seated at Guido's restaurant.
"Nice place."
"Pliable Lad recommended it to me."
"Did he take Panta here then?"
Deja Dude nodded.
"How are things going for those two?"
Deja Dude shrugged his shoulders. "I'm not sure. I don't think
their date turned out very well."
Julie sighed sadly. "That's too bad."
Deja Dude leaned forward. "How would you say things are going for
us?"
"What do you mean?"
Deja Dude held Julie's hand. "How would you like to move in with
me?"
Julie's face assumes that wide-eyed shocked expression that Love
Interests (tm) assume whenever the hero asks this type of question.
Ultimate Ninja is battling a killer robot in the Peril Room.
Ordinary Lady enters.
"Mind if I watch?" she asked.
"No. Go ahead."
Ordinary Lady sits along the wall. Ultimate Ninja battles the killer
robot for a couple of pages: he takes it apart, piece by piece, by
aiming his Ginsu Katana Blade precisely at its joints. As easily as that,
the robot is rendered ineffective.
Ordinary Lady gets up, applauding.
"Bravo! You've got nice moves!"
Ultimate Ninja smiled under his mask. "Thank you. Would you like
to try?"
Ordinary Lady shook her head. "No need: thanks to my Photographic
Reflexes (tm), I learn more by watching you than I do by practicing."
Ultimate Ninja smirked. "Must be nice."
Ordinary Lady smiled.
"Us regular humans have to practice though. Computer: another
robot please."
A second robot comes out of the wall. Ultimate Ninja turns to face
it. Ordinary Lady returns to where she was sitting and starts pouting.
Master Blaster enters. Ordinary Lady does not go unnoticed by him.
"Well, hello. And who are you?" he asked.
"Jean. Jean Nicieza."
"Jean? You don't have a codename?"
"Oh, yes: Ordinary Lady."
"Ordinary Lady? That's nice but it doesn't do you justice: you are
clearly no *ordinary* lady."
"You think so?"
"I know so."
Ordinary Lady smiled, took a quick glance at Ultimate Ninja who was
clearly busy doing his own thing and then looked once more at Master
Blaster. "Look, why don't we continue this conversation somewhere
else?"
Master Blaster was all for that suggestion.
Ultimate Ninja finishes off his robot and looks up to see Master
Blaster talking to Ordinary Lady. He smirks.
"I see Master Blaster is using his 'mac daddy vibes' on Ordinary
Lady," he thought. "It seems to be working too," thought he, becoming concerned. "They're leaving together."
As Ordinary Lady proceeds out of the Peril Room with Master Blaster,
she takes a look back at Ultimate Ninja and gives him a wicked smile.
This does not go unnoticed by Ultimate Ninja.
"What is she up to?" he thought. Ultimate Ninja suddenly found
himself in such a state that he considered himself lucky that Martin Phipps
was writing this story and not Douglas Wojtowicz.
"I think that was enough practice for today." He hit his com-link.
"Captain Cleanup."
<<Yes?>>
"You're needed in the Peril Room."
<<On my way!>>
"Ultimate Ninja out." He took a deep breath. "I think I'll go
take a shower."
