And we're back in the past and can check the eyrie archive
once again.

And we're back doing some LNH stories! And what better way
to return to them than by pitting one of the Trenchcoaters
vs a Good Wholesome American Spandexer like Master Blaster?!
(Or should that be Holesome?!) This was one of those
Cascade type storylines started by Robert Ramirez (one of
the few times he actually wrote his own character) and
then Josh Geurink and Raymond "wReam" Bingham joined in for
the fun.

So who will triumph between this Smackdown of the MASTER of
SPELLS VS The MASTER of ummm oh yeah... BLASTERS?!!!

Or will we all lose?

I may be a little late with this commentary, so please excuse me (I'm
a relative neophyte fan of X-Men compared to some of these long-time aficionados).

I just got a copy of the trade edition of the Weapon X story from
Marvel Comics Presents, and, not having read this story previously,
I must say that the prestige, hardcover format befits the awesome
story. The Barry Windsor-Smith Weapon X story is probably the best
Wolverine story I've ever read. It's a shame that the X-Titles
(sans X-Factor, of course) don't have this level of excellent
characterization and dialogue. (Okay, X-Force is coming closer and
closer, I'll admit.)

Not having kept up with the Wolverine title very much (I read #50 but
forgot most of it), I have a few questions. First of all, whatever
became of Hines and the Professor? As I understand it from the end of
the Weapon X story (after the fake deaths from the "thought experiment"),
Logan didn't do anything to Hines or Dr. Cornelius, but he either maybe
(1) killed or (2) otherwise maimed someone else (we see the hand only).
The Professor, perhaps? I'm confused! (By the way, thanks to Barry Windsor-Smith's excellent characterization, the Professor has become
one of my most hated villains.)

Second, in the midst of the constant retconning that's been going on
with Wolverine, was the idea of Logan being part of a government
experiment already established before Windsor-Smith's story, or did he originally establish this?

Finally, the story discusses the idea of Logan having been a government operative (secret agent, perhaps?) before the Weapon X experiment. Was
this also Windsor-Smith's original idea, or had that already been
established as part of Wolverine's past (well, at least as we know it
now)? (I take it that the Omega Red story in X-Men #4-7 tried to expand
on that idea with the flashbacks Wolverine had.)

On other aspects of the story, I absolutely love the art and the whole storytelling sha-bang that Windsor-Smith gives us. Incredible. This
is _literature_, IM(NS)HO.

MASTER, a technological wiz, creates a new molybdenum/adamantium stainless steel computer-enhanced thermonuclear mega-blast cannon for BLASTER's use.
This is larger than Cable's and Bishop's weapons combined. (Using a weird spell he obtained from somewhere, he makes it impervious to magic,
corrosion,
and other chemical/physical transformations.)

MASTER gives BLASTER the okay for uninhibited, uncontrolled but focused
mayhem. "You know what to do..."

BLASTER, in Terminator/Predator Search Mode, seeks out Occultism Kid of the LNH. Occultism Kid hears an ominous click from behind, turns around, and notices a laser-sighting spot aimed at his forehead. BLASTER says, "Say goodnight, Gracie!", pulls the trigger, and blows Occultism Kid's head into
a million charbroiled, flying, smoking pieces of burnt, bloody flesh, bone
and brain tissue. Then Occultism Kid's headless, lifeless body slumps to
the ground with a sickening thud.

"So I'm stubborn," MASTER BLASTER says with an enormous smirk on his face.
"Sue me." >B)

gun, but at Master Blaster himself!!!
"NOOOO!!!!" The Reed Richards/Terminator wanna-be screamed.
"Without my grossly disproportionate muscles, I'll never be able to
support my...*OOMPH*" As his gun --larger than Cable and Bishop's guns COMBINED -- pins the now muscleless anti-hero to the ground. "I'll
get you for this!!!!" He intoned weakly.
"Oh, I don't doubt it. But until my spell wears off, _YOU_
won't be going after _anyone_. And just to make sure...
"Enamorath, enamoreth... Enemy of mine with guns so large,
enemy on the floor, enemy of mine with guns so large, follow me no
more!!"
Master Blaster (sans muscles) looked up with dazed eyes. "I...
will... not... pursue... I... will... go... entertain... myself...
over... in... alt... flames..." and collapsed.
Occultism Kid smiled and walked away. "Well, that's that.

6... Occultism Kid is leaving the Station, and Master Blaster is still
in his station... "Station, Freeze Programs..."
Ultimate Ninja's instruction is instantly heeded... Ultimate NInja
looks over the dramatic effects of what had just happened. IN one station
is
a twisted MasterBlaster illusion and a gloating Occultism Kid and in the
other
is a charred Occultism Kid corpse and a gloating Master Blaster...
"I hope you realize that the HoloDecStations were not specifically
designed to have you fight against your friends in another. YOu could
damage
the equipment and this stuff is not cheap." Ultimate Ninja frowns sternly. "What!? How did I get in here?!" The two looked baffled, seeing as
though they thought they were really slugging it out...
"Well MultiTasking Man happened to be monitoring the hostility meters
and noticed you two were about to explode or break something so I had him transmat you both to your own seperate HoloDecStations to deal with it in
your
own ways..."
"You mean I really didn't blow him away?!" Master Blaster said
disappointedly.
"NO. And you will not attempt to do so again." Ultimate NInja scolded
the two rival heroes. "If you have any desire to kill each other in the
future
please go to the PerilRoom, and set the safety protocol so that if one of
you
does harm the other it isn't permanent."
"COOL! Wanna continue this battle in the PerilRoom?!" Occultism Kid
said excitedly.
Master Blaster perked up and an evil glint appeared in his eyes.
"Surre!"
Ultimate Ninja hit his comlink. "MultiTasking Man? Transmat these two directly to the Peril Room."
"OK... Will Do..." In a flash the two disapeared from the presence of
Ultimate Ninja, leaving the master of ancient chinese drivel to ponder the
past
programs. He shook his head and went back to the monitoring room.
