In *The Hobbit*, Smaug was not killed by a hobbit, but by Bard, who was

Are you sure it wasn't an android?

Wrongly recorded as a bow and arrow, but careful reading of the Redbook
shows Bilbo was describing a ballista.

The esteemed chine.bleu <chine.bleu@yahoo.com> quotes and writes:

Dwarfs can't kill a dragon, they need a hobbit to do it for them.

Either way, it must have been an arrowing experience.

    Or perhaps a scorpio.
Which a photo of a pair of historical re-enactors in a military
history magazine shows as a really large crossbow.
Comparing it to a normal crossbow would be like comparing a light
machine gun to a heavy machine gun.
The technology may change, but the concept stays the same.
