I've resumed watching a bit of anime to kill time and decided I'd ask
some general questions, such as why do you watch anime? It's a given
that we all have our own reasons, but it's interesting to hear others.
Is there a particular type of anime you like or ethnic slant?
FWIW, I started out watching Japanese anime geared at the boys' high
school market. I found them fun, light-hearted, stupid and risque. As
time moved on, my tastes changed somewhat and got interested in some
like Arifureta (sp?) and Gate - JSDF. These days I've gotten more
interested in the fan fiction novels because they fit my budget.
I've also begun to notice difference in themes between Japanese, Korean
and Chinese stories and that has impacted which ones I'm more willing
to read. What strikes me about the Japanese stories is the desire to
protect one's loved ones and form harems <LOL>, Korean stories seem to emphasize developing strength for self protection and leading life
their way and Chinese stories seem to focus on developing strength as
an end in and of itself and allowing the character to dominate and
overwhelm everyone else, plus the Chinese stories seem to include the
idea of cultivation and the story lines may span millions of years.
Sorry, but that last plot line usually ruins the whole story for me.
