• Wher do you find free anime now?

    From John@invalid@invalid.net to rec.arts.anime.misc on Thu Nov 27 17:05:13 2025

I'm on a zero dollar budget. Where do you find free anime these days?
I used to go to Crunchyroll (subscription based) to watch anime, but
IMO it's gone downhill over the last few years. I have little interest
in subscribing to it these days. So I'm looking for a site(s) that
have a wide range of anime genres over the course of years, say back
into the 1990s if they're still around, preferably subbed (not dubbed)
    to English.

    Thanks.

You do not need a paid subscription on Crunchyroll, if you are OK with ads.

If you want a wide range, Crunchyroll is without alternative. Most other (lawful) streaming services tend to have a few anime too these days, but certainly not a large selection of them.

As far as piracy sites are concerned... find these yourself.

I went to that address and only found connections to
    commercial porn sites.

Now <https://fanfox.net/> has some porn but otherwise a very wide selection of manga and also to anime I believe though I have not enough
    time to explore that presently.

I go to <https://fanfox.net/releases/> twice a day to check on what is available. Looks like they are still suffering the long term effects of Covid-19.

bliss - entertains the curious idea that manga is heaven...

That was my first impression also. However, I did some more
experimenting. I use Firefox with I think it's called NoScript Suite.
Using that I could get a rough idea of specific URLs the web site
linked to and flagged them as untrustworthy. So hianime still pops up
ads but not those of the untrustworthy sites. It's required more
effort on my part, but viewing the anime has been worth the effort.

No, I run into this behavior with my browser as well when I watch anime
on the site. I use Firefox as my browser with a Javascript and URL
blocking extension. What happens when I click on the link for an anime
is that a new tab opens for a third party site. I just close the tab
and click the anime link I want to watch again. Rinse and repeat.
Generally speaking, it seems like the new pop-up stops after three
times and then I get to the page for the anime itself. Slightly
annoying, but so what. At the end of the day, I get to watch and
presumably the site gets the credit (cash) from the advertiser.
Another consideration to keep in mind is that I visit the site but have
not created an account there. So they may very well have set up
different rules for watching anime between those who are visitors and
those who have created accounts at their site.

Again, thank you for pointing out the site. It fits what I was looking
    for and fits my budget.
