Cars: Disney Pixar Movie Sets Perfect Theatrical Rerelease Date
as Fans Wait for Sequel News
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
Disney and Pixar's Cars is headed back to the theaters as part of
the film's 20th anniversary celebration. Fans will soon get another
opportunity to experience the animated classic on the big screen.

Cars returns to the theaters in its original format beginning
September 4, 2026. Tickets for the special re-release go on sale
today. The event also coincides with Lightning McQueen Day, which
fans observe on September 5 every year, a nod to Lightning's
    racecar number, #95.

The re-release comes amid growing anticipation for an update on
Cars 4. In a 2023 interview, Jay Ward, the creative director of the
franchise, teased that more projects are in development (via CBR).
"There are more Cars things brewing," Ward said. "I can't say much
more yet. Cars has got a life that will keep going."

Ward added, "I am working on some real fun projects right now that
you will see in a couple of years. It takes us a while to make
them." There has been no further news about the sequel so far.

Disney is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Cars with multiple
themed collaborations and special events. These include special
screenings at the historic Tee-Pee Drive-In and Tulsa Circle Cinema
and a life-size Lightning McQueen with a "Cars" wrapped Mercedes
Safety Car at the FORMULA 1 GRAN PREMIO D'ITALIA 2026 at Monza in
September. Fans can also shop "Cars Collection for Formula 1" at the
    latter event.

What makes Disney & Pixar's Cars a timeless animated favorite
Cars is one of the most defining movies of the Disney and Pixar
library, spawning several sequels and spin-offs over the years. The
movie first premiered in 2006 and became the sixth-highest-grossing
film of the year. The beloved franchise continues to win hearts with
its memorable characters and an inspiring and heartwarming story of
    friendship.

Directed by John Lasseter, Cars follows Lightning McQueen, a
self-absorbed racecar who finds himself stuck in a desert town of
Radiator Springs, Arizona. As he strikes up new friendships,
Lightning gains a different perspective on life and finally realizes
that success is more than just winning trophies.

The movie features the voices of Owen Wilson, Paul Newman, Bonnie
Hunt, Michael Keaton, Larry the Cable Guy, and many more.

    [snip]

let's see if they keep the scene where Lightning McQueen races
and cuts in front of the freight train...

they got lots of complaints about that one.
