Paramount+ Gets Highly Anticipated Movie Originally Meant for Theaters

The long-awaited fantasy animated movie starring Steven Yeun and Dave
Bautista will no longer receive a theatrical release from Paramount
Pictures. Based on the iconic Nickelodeon series, The Legend of Aang:
The Last Airbender movie is officially going to debut on Paramount+
instead, along with the franchise's newest series, Avatar: Safe
Havens.
"The Avatar Universe has captivated audiences for two decades, and
Paramount+ is proud to be the exclusive streaming home for its beloved
animated incarnation," Paramount+ executive Jane Wiseman said in a
statement. "The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender and Avatar: Seven
Havens represent the next evolution of storytelling from Avatar Studios
- bringing together remarkable talent both in front of and behind the
camera to deliver the epic adventures and emotional depth fans have
come to expect. These additions, alongside The Legend of Korra and the
original series, solidify Paramount+ as the destination for the
animated Avatar Universe."
When is the Paramount+ release date window for Legend of Aang: The Last
Airbender?
Previously, Paramount Pictures was originally going to debut The Legend
of Aang: The Last Airbender in theaters on October 9, 2026. Now,
Variety has confirmed that the highly anticipated fantasy adventure
movie is now set to premiere on Paramount+ sometime in the fall of
2026.
Set several years after the events of the original show, The Legend of
Aang movie follows the beloved character's young adult years. It will
feature the voices of Steven Yeun as Zuko, Dave Bautista, Dionne Quan
as Toph, Jessica Matten as Katara, Roman Zaragoza as Sokka, and Dee
Bradley Baker as Momo, with South Korean singer-songwriter Eric Nam as
the titular last surviving Airbender. In addition to the movie's
Paramount+ move, additional cast members have also been announced,
revealing that Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, Freida Pinto,
Ke Huy Quan, and Peta Sergeant have also joined the cast in undisclosed
roles.
The film is directed by Lauren Montgomery, Steve Ahn, and William
MataIt. Producers are Latifa Ouaou and Maryann Garger, along with
original series creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino.
It serves as the first movie project from Nickelodeon's Avatar Studios.
