• [OT] Posting multimedia content

I post messages on other newsgroups. One involves cooking and people
often post links to images or videos that they've uploaded to a host.

Over the years, I've read old usenet posts that include links that are
dead. Either the site is offline or the URL schema has changed, or the
site no longer hosts the content.

I was posting a thread that was going to include an image and it dawned
on me that binaries have a purpose other than posting warez and porn. I
did a search and found a few relevant binary newsgroups that fit the
subject of the newsgroup I was posting in.

I decided to post my image there, then provided the newsgroup address
    and subject.

Some people complained that I didn't provide a link, others thought it
was way too hard to follow another NG, even temporarily. Someone
downloaded the image and posted it on an image host.

I do know this, any image or video I post on a binaries newsgroup will
still be there as long as usenet exists. So, now, I need to find a
fitting newsgroup that matches the subject of this NG. I may have to
resort to a generic one. We'll see.

For future reference, I hope it's okay with you all that I continue
posting my multimedia content on a binaries newsgroup. If your host
doesn't provide access to binaries, ask them to include that one and see
what they say. It may be harmless. My provider grants free read-only
access to usenet, hint hint. I only pay a few dollars a month for
    posting rights.

Try de.alt.dateien.misc, as it is on E-S too - for free.

Several people in RFC fall under the category I described below. They
only access Usenet via some free service.

    Thanks, I didn't know that.

I haven't used ES in years. I think the google-groupers who stuck
around are using some kind of BBS system to access Usenet now.
Personally, I think that's all convoluted.

An "Old School" Block news account is what I use, I paid maybe $5 for a
huge block, and that data allotment will likely last my lifetime, so I
don't mind accessing a binary group every now and again, they give me
plenty of bandwidth to go around.

Some move to Novabbs.org, that uses a software called rocksolid light.

Two newsgroups that have been used for pictures in the past are:

    alt.binaries.pictures.radio

    alt.binaries.radio.pictures

To get my real email address, replace wrongname with eggmen.
Then replace nospam with expressmail. Lastly, replace com with dk.

Yeah I found them after my OP.

I will refer to them in the future as I upload content.

Even though the echomail services out there provide usenet relays, my
bbs is a bit fucked in the echomail department and I'm too lazy to fix
    it.

At some point I'll be posting from my bbs when I have the messaging
    arena working reliably.

In the meantime, I continue to pay $5/month for newshosting.com

I don't connect to any binaries until recently, and to upload content
    for my posts.

At the moment I'm ranting over the performance of my baseball team. They
seem intent on tanking this season. Can't play for shit.
