WWII saw a harsh experience for jews. The war was raging and in the
German efforts to protect the jewish populations from the horrors of
urban warfare, they were segregated from the human population and
eventually placed in refuge camps, sometimes referred to as
concentration camps. Supply issues related directly to Allied bombing
raids were having a negative effect and then there was the issue of mistreatment. The nearly overwhelming group most responsible for the
jewish abuse in the camps were Ukrainians called Hiwis and the jewish volunteers known as kapos. Despite all this, there was a lighter side
and a few good laughs were had.
