That article makes no credible claim that Hipkins (or Ardern) were
aware of any issues in the conduct of the Police management they
confirmed as appointed. There is no evidence of actual wrongdoing in
the appointments of Coster and McSkimming - such as a lack of due
diligence that should have seen the appointments rejected.

Hipkins and Ardern could quite rightly say that if they knew then what
is apparent now, they would never have approved the Police leadership appointments they made.

I bnelieve the point of the article and definitely the reason I posted the link
is that for Hipkins to now stay out of the debate is hypocritical. He should, in a perfect world, admit they got it wrong even if they didn't know at the time. This is not a subject for political point scoring in my view. I would say
the same if it was a party different to Labour.

More likely you would get Hipkins saying that if they knew then what
is now apparent, the appointments would not have been confirmed as
    they did then.

There is also the point that the promotion was done under their watch
(Hipkins and Ardern) and they need to fess up. Where was the whistle blower,
or why did they not bring it to Ardern's and Hipkins attention.

The world is not perfect but things need to happen to prevent this from happening again as much as possible.
