    Two different groups are trying to encourage voters to split their

    on the one side you have Te P-Uti M-Uori, and on the other a bunch of right-wingers is trying get their supporters to split their vote to
    choose both National and either ACT or NZ First.

    This will create an rCLoverhangrCY which increases the number of MPs in Parliament, the idea being that this will (hopefully) increase more of
    the MPs on your particular side.

    I see this as an act of desperation. Increasing the number of MPs also proportionately *decreases* the voting power of each MP. You may get
    your overhang, but it might not be enough to give you the edge you
    were hoping for.

    From the beginning of MMP, we were told that the list/party vote is
    more important than the electorate vote. This is still true.
