  • A debate on important issues takes time

While I have no issue with the matter of updating, changing, the electrol system by a referendum it seems that National seems to think that this can
be sorted out in quickly rather than later.

Some referendums get some what messy, an example is the Change the flag referendum. If we are going to change the system of MMP then it is a matter
of what to? Plenty of options.

Then any mention of Maori seats removal will hijack the debate.

With both National and Labour polling under 30% it is time for NZ to get
used to coalition Governments and bi-partisan governing being the rule
rather than the exception. Some hope I know but the FFP has had it day.

A referendum on MMP as suggested by Luxon is not likely to get over
the line. It is not National policy (AFAIK). I am sure that if ACT
and/or NZF insist that any such a referendum includes anything to do
with abolition of the Maori seats Luxon will go very quiet on this -
he does not initiate anything likely to be controversial.
