On the contrary. It was National Party HQ which in effect dumped Winston
early in 1993, telling Winston that National Party HQ would veto his renomination by the Tauranga electorate committee. Winston did the only
thing he could: resign from Parliament to force a by-election so he
could get a new mandate from his electorate. This reply is not an
