• Blocking Google Analytics

    From Lawrence D'Oliveiro@ldo@nz.invalid to nz.comp on Thu Mar 14 04:57:25 2024

    I currently have the following in my /etc/hosts file:

    127.0.0.1 google-analytics.com
    127.0.0.1 googletagmanager.com
    127.0.0.1 securepubads.g.doubleclick.net
    127.0.0.1 www.google-analytics.com
    127.0.0.1 www.googletagmanager.com

    I think this is the reason why I see blank areas labelled rCLAdvertisementrCY on certain sites. ;)

    Any others you have found useful?

    Really? Have you forgotten about your ad blockers?

    See the Example 2 list here:
    <https://calomel.org/proxy_auto_config.html>

    The PAC file in example 2 covers any domain ending in ".doubleclick.com", ".doubleclick.net", or ".googlesyndication.com". Something you can do
    more easily with a PAC file than with a hosts file.

    Except thatrCOs something that has to be loaded on a per-browser basis.
