The New York Giants have fired head coach Brian Daboll and named Mike
Kafka interim head coach for the rest of the season.
The Giants are 2-8 and have lost four straight games. They are 11-33
(.250) since making the playoffs in DabollAs first season as head coach,
and 20-40-1 (.336) over DabollAs three-plus seasons as head coach. Only
Bill Arnsparger (.200), Pat Shurmur (.281) and Joe Judge (.303) have lower winning percentages than Daboll among Giants full time head coaches.
This is the third straight season in which the Giants have been 2-8 after
10 games.
oWe spoke this morning about the direction of our franchise on the field,
and we have decided that, at this time, it is in our best interest to make
a change at the head coaching position,o president John Mara and chairman Steve Tisch said in a joint statement.
oThe past few seasons have been nothing short of disappointing, and we
have not met our expectations for this franchise. We understand the frustrations of our fans, and we will work to deliver a significantly
improved product.
oWe appreciate Coach Daboll for his contributions to our organization. We
wish the Daboll family all the best in the future.o
GM Joe Schoen and embattled defensive coordinator Shane Bowen will remain
in their jobs.
