As an open, unauthenticated server, we're aware we're in the eye of the storm regarding spam concerns. We take this seriously and have implemented a multi-layered defense strategy:

    **Anti-Spam Arsenal:**
    - **Cleanfeed** - Real-time spam filtering with pattern matching
    - **SpamAssassin** - Configured specifically for Usenet traffic
    - **Fail2Ban** - Aggressive rate limiting on port 119
    - **IPTables rate limiting** - Network-level abuse prevention
    - **Hashcash** - Proof-of-work system for posting
    - **Ed25519 signatures** - Cryptographic message authentication

We actively monitor abuse reports and maintain strict anti-spam policies while preserving user privacy.

Working on Black/Block lists based on above results.

Unfortunately, for those of us using cnfs cycbuffers. once a spam gets
through, it's space we're never going to get back...not for me anyway
because I don't expire articles and I keep adding new buffers as
required but I have only so much disk space.

While I'm not a fan of anonymous usenet access, it's pretty much
impossible to stop since any man and his dog can create a gmail,
outlook, yahoo, or myriad of other accounts.

    It's Not Spam!

What you "think" is spam is not spam for other people. "D" thinks if
we're not talking about omnimix then it's spam. Posts are going in
here about privacy, surveillance, conspiracy, corruption etc.

If branded toothpaste or coffee was put in here then yes it's spam!

This is USENET and nobody can censor what is posted here, if you are
not interested in the subject line then DON'T READ IT!!!

"NOBODY" has the right to judge it as spam!

Go see the doc "D" and tell him you have had too much spam!

nothing is 100% anonymous . . . random anonymous remailer chains are
certainly more secure than tor-mailers, but nowadays, "a.i" assisted surveillance is sure to be watching everyone, everything, everywhere,
but if big brother is essentially an earth-sized robot, maybe spying
on mere mortals is of little importance to the mind of the automaton

I have a 15-day retention policy for all articles.
It helps mitigate spam accumulation on disk, as you said.

It's a tradeoff which ensures we don't indefinitely store spam that
    slips through filters, you know.

I was considering transitioning to Tor onion service exclusively.

    BUT

While tor rapresents anonymity and freedom of expressions on the other
hand it would turns out to be another form of gate keeping.

    Spam ?

Limiting it has always been the only way to keep the service alive.
    We have no choice.

you're right, I should resolve the problem on my end, configure dnews to filter out all posts from his system, of course whilst i'm there I should
take out all psots from dizum too, now why didn't I think of that sooner.

Could you, please, elaborate on your criteria for classifying
posts as "forgery", "malformed" and "crosspost"?

Am I right in assuming that the "domain" in your stats represents
the right-hand part of the Message-ID? If so, what relevance does it
have, given that the Message-ID header can be supplied either by the
user, the newsreader or the server?

You - and all the others of this group, better killfile all those anon
bleeps and their trolls. They, especially this gabx a-wipe, have
destroyed numerous groups with their crap. Answer them and you're
feeding them. Sadly, though, almost none of the users of a group under
attack will killfile. We will then see another group become meaningless
    and dead.

    Sad.
