• RootBadger project: Usenet structure, modern clients

A brief project announcement for people who still care about organized online discussion: I run RootBadger, a modern group-based community influenced by Usenet. Conversations live in hierarchical topic groups and readable thread trees, with signatures, message headers, RSS, search, and no algorithm
deciding which reply you are allowed to notice.

RootBadger is available on the web and through a native Android app. The app supports groups, threaded posts, notifications, private Chatta messages, dashboard widgets, and BurrowTalk push-to-talk voice rooms. An iPhone app is coming soon.

BurrowTalk is the unusual piece: a community can keep its lasting discussion
in text but also use a live PTT room when members want to talk. The aim is not to imitate every part of Usenet, but to keep its useful structure while making the service approachable from current phones.

I am openly affiliated with the project and welcome criticism or feature questions.

In my opinion, threading is Usenet's key advantage versus any Web forum.
I've seen a handful do pseudothreading, but it's not Usenet-like.

Usenet has this same advantage versus mailing lists, which could be but
are generally not presented to the subscriber threaded by his client.
The only practical way to do so is gate messages to a News server.

I've yet to see a comment from you about threading.
