True. I remember when AOL Instant Messenger came out and one of my
coworkers was excitedly telling about.
them: "You can chat with some one in real time!"
me: "Like IRC."
them: "But you can send files too!"
me: "Like IRC."
them: "No, but you can join groups for group chats!"
me: "Like IRC."
I know IRC != usenet, but this conversation happened in 1998.
Actually, I've been happy to see that usenet and IRC seem to be making a
bit of a comeback with all of the popularity of retro gaming and
computing on the rise.
