Can you provide example newsgroups you're seeing?

    $ cat unwanted.log | egrep 'alt\.'
    7 alt.bbs.files-announce
    5 alt.sex.pictu
    4 alt.test.9
    2 alt.2600.madrid
    1 alt.soc.germans

Keep in mind, some of the commercial NSPs will accept and propagate ANY
article with ANY Newsgroups: header, whether 'valid' or not. I don't pay too much attention to the 'unwanted' logs... If there's a newgroup message sent
for the alt hierarchy, INN's default is to accept it, so I always assume these are articles I don't need or are sent in error.

Outside of alt, there are several groups that seem to get posted to with regular frequency, but I've never received a newgroup/checkgroups control message for:

    $ cat unwanted.log

    1. There is no authoritative list of alt.* groups.

    2. Could this be related to your new full feed from paganini?
In that case, there are two options:
Do an actsync with paganini or just ignore the "unwanted newsgroup"

Dude! You are pretending to a be a News administrator! If you recognize
a froup, it's a froup. If you do not recognize a froup, it's not a
froup. You are the News administrator. You are literally in charge of
    whatever froups you offer.

If you both wish to peer, then you both must use a froup's canonical
name otherwise articles won't land where visible to users. In alt.*, if
the proponent sent a newfroup message, read that for the canonical
name if it's not got any major errors in it. In an administered hierarchy, consult checkgroups.

I wonder if everyone have a synced newsgroups and newsrc and related files.

.newrc is the list of froups you subscribe to. It's a newsreder file.
You don't syncronize it! As a user, it's entirely your call what you
    subscribe to.

If you want to syncronize your newsfroups and active files, obtain them
from one of your peers. Otherwise, you maintain them yourself as you
    create and remove froups locally.

If you do not wish to be in charge, then turn in your News administratrs credentials.

There is no "official" list of alt.* groups, as there is no official
process and no official hierarchy management.

ISC offers a sample active file that contains all groups for which
newgroup control messages have been sent in the past. As everybody can
send such control messages for alt.* (some people claim that alt is an
acronym for "anarchists, lunatics, terrorists"), newgroup messages for

acronym for "anarchists, lunatics, terrorists"), newgroup messages for
    alt.* are meaningless.

Why are you carrying alt.drwho ?

Answer Ray first binky, if you can dry your tears that is.

Why do you add follow=ups to groups that don't exist binky?

alt.sex.pedophilia for example? Or does it only exist on NotKnow NNTP?

    Another example is

    alt.idiot.will-dockery ** invalid news group -- check spelling **

    like alt.drwho

but alt.drwho.creative is a legit group

WE need to get rid of all bogus alt groups in our data

I know ISC.org does carry an official list .

    Was it "false" or "faux"?

Did you type "false" but became "faux"?

Then you possibly are in a seal.

False vs faux . MEans the same thing.

    Meaning and Usage

False: A native English word meaning incorrect, untrue, deceitful, or structurally artificial (e.g., false teeth, false statement, false start).

Faux: A borrowed French word (pronounced like "foe") used stylishly to
mean imitation or artificial, especially in fashion, decor, and design
(e.g., faux fur, faux leather, faux pearls)

"aux" can mean auxillary, a term used in
    computer operating systems.

    "F-aux" can mean something completely
    different. :)
