• Should I add the other server before sending a peer request?

    From Soul Patch@soul.patch@127.0.0.1 to news.admin.peering on Sun Apr 5 03:53:34 2026

Should I configure the desired peer in the inn2 configuration before sending them a peer request?

Or would my peer hammer theirs with repeated messages that get rejected before they add my peer?

    A little clarification would help.

I personally rather when people msg me to peer with us in our hispagatos server, unfortunatelly
sometimes I get busy and takes me 3-4 days to get back.

Technically, all it does is generate "permission denied" (or similar depending on the NNTP server) on the target peer. That may bother some people, and while it does not bother me, I do prefer for the requester to send an e-mail before either side configures the feed.

Since you mention INN, you can add the peer to your incoming.conf, but do not add them to the newsfeeds file (until you've confirmed peering). That will allow the remote peer to send to you, and when you've confirmed with them via e-mail that the feed has been, or will be configured you can add to the newsfeeds file.

    +1

Since you mention INN, you can add the peer to your incoming.conf, but do not add them to the newsfeeds file (until you've confirmed peering).

You can even do that, but not reload newsfeeds and/or not add the peer
to innfeed.conf (provided you use innfeed to feed postings to your
    peers).
