• Any giganews news admins around?

    From vallor@vallor@vallor.earth to news.admin.misc,news.software.nntp on Sun Nov 16 16:40:03 2025
    From Newsgroup: news.admin.misc

I'm going back-and-forth with Giganews tech support about
    my observations:

    1) New articles posted on Giganews aren't getting filed, but DO
    propagate off-site,
    2) Articles posted on other NSP's to misc.test appear to not get
    filed on Giganews.

    281 News.GigaNews.Com
    group misc.test
    211 3506533 461197 3967729 misc.test

(posted article using my news client on Giganews to misc.test, which
appeared on other NSP's, but not on either giganews server.)

    group misc.test
    211 3506533 461197 3967729 misc.test

The count and high-water mark for the group is not affected.

It doesn't appear in the overview either:

    group misc.test 211 3506533 461197 3967729 misc.test xover 3967728- 224
    xover information follows 3967729 Test YamnWeb2 Anonymous User <noreply@dirge.harmsk.com> Sun, 16 Nov 2025 07:01:27 -0500 <20251116.070127.aab2c121@dirge.harmsk.com> 2432 1 Xref: number.nntp.giganews.com misc.test:3967729

However, I can retrieve any of these articles on both news.giganews.com
and news-central.giganews.com _by Message-ID_. So their server(s) know
about the articles, but they aren't getting filed in the newsgroup, and
they aren't appearing in the overview.
    _ _ _ _ _ _ _

BTW, that high-water mark hasn't budged all morning, despite
    the posts.

The back-and-forth is getting just a tiny bit draining. They
just asked me to try different news client software. I've
    been using "openssl s_client" :/

They finally kicked my ticket up to "Level II tech support", which

Sometime between 2012 and 2014 I subscribed to GigaNews and found a number of issues. Mostly missing articles that I couldn't fetch at all, but were present on other providers. At the time I was pulling text articles to start an archive, but so many failed I moved on to other providers. Beyond missing articles, it was clear that they had a widespread overview problem at the
time. I had various issues using a newsreader with their service related to either corrupt or missing overview data. Sad to hear it is still ongoing. At one time, they had very well ran infrastructure.

There was a Reddit post in r/usenet somewhat recently that mentioned the company had basically been taken over by its employees and was in the process of changing things up. Maybe you'll actually get to one of the ones who care about the end-user experience.

They got it running properly on Monday, probably when the admins
    came in to work.

Just checked it again, and it's running properly.
