• Re: FreeBSD 15.1-BETA3 Now Available

The third beta build of the 15.1-RELEASE release cycle is now available.

    Hi.

Thank You for the message Colin.

One part was interesting for me:

o Scripted bsdinstall installations now use pkgbase.

Where is the documentation for that?

    How to exactly use that?

    Thanks,
    vermaden

I made that change, vermaden. The documentation is in the
bsdinstall(8) man page. The short version is:
Download the official iso. Untar it. Put your custom script in /etc/installerconfig. Then recreate the iso. If the script sets a
variable named DISTRIBUTIONS, then the iso will automatically do a
distset install. If the script does not set such a variable, then the
iso will automatically do a pkgbase install. See bsdinstall(8) for
    details.

    commit cb7880bb09009c977d3fb70a66b0f57f9fbe83ed
    Author: Alan Somers <asomers@FreeBSD.org>
    Date: Tue Apr 28 11:27:17 2026 -0600

bsdinstall: do pkgbase installations with the "script" command

"bsdinstall script" will now do a pkgbase installation by default. The
system components to install can be specified in the COMPONENTS
variable, and have the same names as those used in the interactive
installer. bsdinstall will still do a legacy distset installation if
DISTRIBUTIONS is defined in the installerconfig file.
