Versions ending with .postN are interpreted as "patch" versions by the framework (pkg version -t 2.3.7 2.3.7.post1) and are considered to be
lower than base versions, but they are actually higher for Python ports.

What is the correct way of handling this?
My non-authoritative answer: since these postX releases resemble
our PORTREVISIONS, just bump PORTREVISION and add DISTVERSIONSUFFIX.

    Hi!
I think it is extensively covered in the porter's Handbook: https://docs.freebsd.org/en/books/porters-handbook/makefiles/#makefile-naming Look at section 5.2.2, "Versions, DISTVERSION or PORTVERSION".
In your case, patchlevel should sort properly!
    My 2 cents,
    Alexey

I needed a bit of reading and searching on that handbook page, but I think "Example 5" of the handbook page gives the answer of using "PORTVERSION=2.3.7p1". Especially compared to DISTVERSION=2.3.7p1 in Example 4.
    Is that a correct reasoning?
    Regards,
    Ronald.
