I'm sure it will sell, because it is the first foldable phone that makes
sense. An Android phone that opens into....a.....bigger Android phone is not
so exciting. Because Android phone apps are notorious for not scaling well to larger screens. But an iPhone that turns into an iPad is going to be
    compelling for some people.

OTOH, for the same $2000 that gets you a 256GB iPhone Duo, you can get a 256GB iPhone 18 Pro Max and a 256GB iPad mini 7. A much better deal IMO. I have a 256GB iPhone 17 Pro Max and a 256GB iPad mini 7. Because 2 devices are better than 1 and the iPad mini 7 has a larger screen than the Duo. For "traveling light" they are a great combo. Throw in a Mac Neo and you have everything covered and is still pretty light. All using the same charger and cable BTW.

Of course, I have a Neo. And various other iPads. And various other Macs. But I'll pass on the $2000 (base price) iPhone/iPad combo. Because it gives me nothing that I don't already have.

Very few current iPhone apps will scale at all due to the different
screen ratio. It's like running iPhone apps on an iPad, you'll get big
    black bars down either side.

Yep. The iPhone Duo is even more hideously expensive than a regular
iPhone or high-end Samsung. To get the top-spec iPhone Duo will cost
you the same as buying about three / four Mac Mini computers!!

No doubt the more-money-than-sense brigade will be buying it just to
show off that they have the latest toy on the block, but I doubt it
    will sell in huge numbers.

Not sure how well that will work. It's not an ipad aspect ratio. It will
    need developers to support it.

Or a MBA and a 17e. Which highlights how crazy the price of the Duo is.

I don't see it replacing or combining anything so is just going to sit in
the exclusive luxury phone market for those who want such a thing. Apple is very happy to have high-end, low volume gear.

I am going to wait for a few years. I am sure there will be lots of
issues in the first model and version. I am OK with my 17. I'd love to
see Apple bring back its smaller iPhones like minis and SE, but they
    won't. :(

Expensive, non-standard screen ratio, gimmicky folding design ...
doubtful it will sell in big numbers (especially after the idiot
release rush by the more-money-than-sense brigade) and may well
disappear again in a few years.
