I'll let you know if the update adds it to my iPad.
Hi badgolferman,
Regarding Image Playground...
<
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/image-playground/id6479176117>
I saw the posts by "joerg" "yourname" "jolly Roger" & "Old John" where it
seems only the latter gave you any usable information, if that. Sorry.
When I updated my iPad, it didn't add anything called "PlayGround" that I
could find, but I found out later that the iPad 10th Generation does not support the "Playground" (Apple Intelligence) features that you see on your iPhone 17. The Playground app requires an M1 chip or newer (or the A17 Pro chip). My iPad 10th Gen uses the A14 Bionic chip, which lacks the "Neural Engine" needed to run these specific AI image tools.
So I can't test anything for you. Sorry. .
Hence, everything I say below is not from my experience.
Looking it up...
*Image Playground in iOS 26: All about Apple's AI-powered image generation*

"Image Playground is a standalone application included in the
Apple Intelligence suite that lets you create original digital
images from written descriptions, suggested concepts, or even
personal photos."
I never hesitate to let people know when I do NOT know something, so I want
you to know I know absolutely nothing about this app but I did read this.
*ChatGPT arrives on iOS 26: integrates with Image Playground and revolutionizes image generation on the iPhone*

That article states "The feature is available on iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and
macOS Tahoe, and requires user consent to send images to ChatGPT" where it "makes it easy to generate images from the iPhone without installing
external apps".
The article says "iOS 26 integrates ChatGPT into Image Playground to create images in new art styles like anime, oil painting, or watercolor".
Apparently it lets us generate images, stickers and custom emoji by
describing what we want, and it can also transform our photos into
different art styles like watercolors, anime, or oil paintings.
An example might be we type "A golden retriever wearing sunglasses, surfing
a huge wave in a comic-book style" and Playground creates several versions
of that scene for you.
Seems to me, it's useful if you do creation of images as a habit.
It does three themes: Animation, Illustration or Sketch.
It can do custom emoji (if that's your thing, which I doubt it is).
In the Notes app, you can circle a rough sketch you've made with your
finger, and it will transform it into an illustration.
Inside Apple Music, you can type a mood-like "lo-fi beats for a rainy
Sunday", and it will generate a 25-song playlist with custom AI cover art.
Overall, it doesn't seem like a bad app to have.
AI is why Apple finally put modern-sized RAM into the latest devices after
all. May as well use that gift from Apple of modern-sized RAM in a phone.
