I have and still sometimes use a 2014 Mac Mini. It is forever stuck on
MacOS 12.7.6. Yesterday MS updated the Edge Browser to a new version.
Great, right? But the version it updated to canrCOt be run on MacOS 12.7.6.

Now when I try to run Edge, I get a small error screen that says rCLYou canrCOt use this version of the application Microsoft Edge on this version of
MacOS. You have MacOS 12.7.6. The application requires MacOS 13.0 or laterrCY.

Umm, so then why the hell did you update it? How fucking stupid is that?

I did some searching and found a way to fix it. Delete the current
version, reinstall the older version and then disable the brain dead auto updater with a terminal command.

But why is this even needed? How does shit like this get past QA? Does
MS even HAVE a QA department these days? Looking at the current mess that Windows 11 is in since the September rCLPatch TuesdayrCY - a rCLsecurity updaterCY
broke copy/paste in Excel??? - it is clear that MS does not even know what
    QA is.

How does a Windows Update break something as simple as copy/paste in a MICROSOFT app? How does an updater update you to a version that YOU CANrCOT EVEN RUN??? You didnrCOt bother to check this? If I did something this stupid where I work I would no longer be working there.

rCLSoftware Testing? Who has time for that? We have AI nonsense to build!rCY

The former rCLWorldrCOs Largest Software CompanyrCY is now the Keystone Cops of software.

What do you mean "now"?? Microsloth has never ever been able to do
anything properly. Everything they produce, software and hardware, is bug-ridden garbage (and almost all of it has been bought or stolen from someone else, and then ruined by Microsloth). :-p

    I know, I know.

But this is just mind-bendingly, amazingly, amateur-hour stupid. My searching showed that this Edge update on Macs issue has happened several times over the years.

This is right up there with plugging in a monitor and getting automatic downloads of ads and other shit software.

I would consider Firefox, my 2017 iMac running Ventura can run Firefox
157.0 (latest version), I don't know about Monterey though.

I also have a 2014 iMac running Mojave and Firefox still supports
    security updates for v.115.42.oesr.

    I've never used Edge myself.

This is not a browser issue. Safari still works fine.

I was just astonished that ANY update by ANY company would actually install a version of ANY software that I can't even run.

That is how inept Microsoft is with simple software. Because they are STILL totally focused on chasing the Elusive Butterfly of AI. Since 2022, MS has spent a whopping 270 billion dollars on AI. And they have earned ONLY 40 billion in AI revenue. Which is why MS stock is down 22% in 2026.
