    Hi denizens of c.s.Amiga.misc,

This is the only way have to reach Robert Bernardo for whom
this item is intended. If anyone else finds it of interest I would be gratified.

Well I subscribe to Linux Magazine formerly Linux Pro magazine.

In this months Issue #299. there is an article on Commodore Vision OS
and the hardware on which it may run. To me it seems truncated. So I went looking and the copy I was looking at was truncated. It is in the Maker
    Space
section on page 72 and covers a piece of hardware resembling a C=64, but
seems to be a fairly high spec x86 using a AMD Ryzen processor. The
    keyboard
is not quite as useful as it could be.

The issue should be on the stands later this month and it has
    the blurb on
the top of the front cover. It seems to be running on top of a Linux distribution.
You can buy it online in either digital or if you move fast a paper copy.

Yet another pointless in-name-only "C64". Whether it is Raspberry Pi
based or a modern Windows PC, it is *NOT* *NOT *NOT* a "C64" ... it's
just a computer running an emulator, something you can easily do
    yourself much cheaper.

Modern tech has moved on. There won't and can't ever be a true new "C64".

Yes modern tech has moved on but some folks are nostalgic for their youth.
I used the C=64 in my middle age and while I learned a few things on it
I hated it because of many factors some relating to my personal
    deficiencies.
Have you read the article? It is about an emulator which simulates a C=64
using software called Commodore Vision OS. Mr.Bernardo is part of a group which still is interested in 20th Century computing.

The AmigaOS and computers from Commodore were the best in the World at one time. Many people who live in cultures with less disposability than
    in the USA
are using Amiga computers and OSes on both original hardware and subsequent attempts to extract profit from Amiga Users.

I am not one of those people, but they are very good people by and large.

Of course, and that's why you either buy a real C64 (or at least a real replica) or do emulation yourself on your current computer. These
pretend things that claim to be a "C64" are simply silly cash-ins by
    some greedy person.

There are lots of emulators around. No need to waste money on a fake
"C64" that is really just a Windoze PC running an emulator.

The AmigaOS and computers from Commodore were the best in the World at one time.

They were. We had a Vic20, then a C64, and then an Amiga 500. I was
about to buy an Amiga when Commodore went bankrupt.

I loved those Commodore computers (and the Apple II), and I have run
emulators of them on my Mac computers, but there are too many scam
artists around claiming that they've made the "new C64", which in
reality is just a bog-standard Raspberry Pi or Windoze PC running an
emulator. The fact is that a true "new C64" is simply never going to
exist, and can't be made today.

Heh, you have my e-mail address, Bobbie.

In this months Issue #299. there is an article on Commodore Vision OS and the hardware on which it may run.

I've been told that Vision OS is not very good.

It is in the Maker Space
section on page 72 and covers a piece of hardware resembling a C=64, but seems to be a fairly high spec x86 using a AMD Ryzen processor. The keyboard is not quite as useful as it could be.

Heh, the Commodore 64x has been around since 2011. I consider it just to be a Windows PC in a C64 case.

Have you ever heard of catastrophic software/hardware failures?

I think that accounts for his inability to contact you himself via phone.

I have seen that one, but not looked closely since it's expensive. It basically seems to be an emulator done in FPGA hardware, rather than
software. It certainly isn't a "new C64", but at best more of an
    upgraded C64 (USB, HDMI, etc.).

The old computers were so special because they had things like
innovative custom chips for sound, graphics, etc. These days tech has
moved past that, which is why there won't ever be a new computer that
is like the C64, Amiga, and others. All you get now are bog-standard
Windoze PCs and Macs with basically an annual tweak to the speed. There
isn't really any innovation left and nowhere they can properly innovate
any more, partly due to having to be backwards compatible.

Is it that same guy who lived in Tulare (10 miles south of Visalia) who had
his A3000 repaired by us? He lived in a decrepit farmhouse that had bad electrical connections. So, it was not necessarily the A3000's fault but that of the bad electricity in his house.
Since I'm always on the move, he should write me a letter.
