Has anyone got this model to work with RISC OS, either via USB or as a
    network printer using RPFS?

It prints automagically from my Android devices very nicely, but doesn't
seem to like the PostScript drivers, though as a plus it doesn't use up all
the paper and cause a scrabble for the mains plug.

It does seem to be accepting (some) data, but doesn't quite get round to
    using it.

I suspect it might need a subtly different USB driver, or a magic
incantation in the RPFS string. It does declare that it has LPD on!

My main usage will/can be PDF files, and I can manage via shared drives to print via Android, but any alternative input would be welcome!

Does it support IPP printing? I had a quick look at the specs, but
they are not explicit. However it does have WiFi, so it may do.

If it does, !IPPTrnspt may help.

The specs don't mention Postscript (Brother call it BRScript) or PCL, so I suppose it's into proprietary driver territory. But it supports Airprint
(for iOS) and Mopria (for Android) so it may well support IPP.

If it does, !IPPTrnspt may help.

PDumperURF there seems to support Apple Raster (URF) which is the default format for AirPrint. I think this route is the best option.

Please also add to the ROOL thread so that is more complete?

I have had excellent results with an Apsom printer and IPPTrnspt.

I've printed out the 3+ page Printer Settings, and as well as the LPD I mentioned, AirPrint, Mopria and IPP are all listed as being "on".

TCP/IP, mDNS, Web Server, IPv6, LLMNR, SNMP, Raw Port, NetBIOS/IP,
WebServices and SMTPCli are also "on".

I've downloaded Dave's programs, but fall (fail) at the first step.

FindIPP keeps its window up for the requisite 10 seconds, then closes down
    with no result.

GetIPP, the alternative printer-info-gatherer, fails with the error "Bad
    URL".

Hoping to perhaps find the information another way, searching the Settings printout visually for a URL with a port number of :631 tacked onto it as
Dave suggests in the link you quoted where he discusses GetIPP yields no results.

Unfortunately these Settings pages only exist as printouts, so I can't
easily share them as I might the output from a RISC OS application!

For the record I'm using a RPi4 running RISC OS natively on a Fortress m/c.

I may bother Dave directly, but thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

    Best wishes,

    John

I may bother Dave directly, but thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

I don't know Dave's tools, but the IPP URL should be something like http://<printer ip address>:631/ipp

and you can find out the IP address by looking at your router. eg if the router says the printer is 192.168.1.99 then the URL would be:

    http://192.168.1.99:631/ipp

The first part of the puzzle is mDNS, which is how to scan for printers on
the network and maps them to nice names like http://Brother-ABC123.local/
But you can skip that if you know the IP address. Once you have the IPP URL than the driver should be able to interrogate the printer and tell it to
print with URF which is the format used by AirPrint.

The IP may change, so it's a good idea to make a static assignment of it on your router so the printer is always 192.168.1.99 (or whatever).

If I go with a web browser to http://192.168.1.99:631/ipp using the IP of my Brother laser, I get a web page saying:

    "httpd
    405 Method Not Allowed
The requested method is not allowed for the URL."

which means that it is answering my request successfully (even if the
browser didn't say the right IPP things to it).

I have no direct experience of that printer, but its specification
claims that it supports IPP. Try the stuff on my web site https://davehigton.me.uk

    No guarantees.

Your printer claims to have a web server. If you go to that, you'll
probably find the correct URL to use with GetIPP.

Richard Darby has had some success with Brother Printers. There are a
couple of downloads on his website.
