I am having trouble sending email through Btinternet at the moment, my
last email was sent in June.
Has BT altered their port numbers? I'm trying 110,587 and 465.
I can receive email but cannot send any, the error message in Hermes
says Connection lost. Anyone any ideas please.

You will not be able to /send/ email via port 110 under any circumstance. >That port is for POP3, which is for reading mail /only/.
I cannot imagine any circumstance nder which a major email provider
would change port numbers - these are well-known and standardised.
I don't use Hermes, so I can't give any direct help; but can Hermes
give any detailed logs to show what the error is?
Otherwise I recommend going back to exactly the settings - /all/ of
them - that used to work, and trying again over a period of time, as
all email providers probably have an occasional unexpected problem.
The fact that you've listed ports 587 and 465 implies that you're
using secure SMTP. This relies on TLS certificates, which have
expiry dates, and it's surprisingly common for organisations to
forget to renew them. I don't think that's the problem in your
case, though, as I've just checked my BT email address (I never use
it, but I keep checking in case they send me anything!) using secure
POP3 on port 995, which should use the same certificates, and I can
log in without problem.

Take a look at:
https://www.bt.com/help/email/manage-email-account/manual-settings/ what-are-the-settings-for-outgoing-and-incoming-bt-email-servers
Check your SMTP settings are correct
Mpro 8.05
Current version is 9.02
Hermes 5.52
Current version 5.56
Turn on detailed logging in Hermes for your outgoing mail account, as that >will help in seeing the exchange between your client (hermes) and
BTinternet.

I've just successfully sent an email via my BT Internet account, using >SSL/TLS on port 465. That's using the MSC (Mail Submission Client)
app written by Frank de Bruijn to accompany Antispam, not Hremes,
but at least it proves that BT Internet email can be sent OK.
Like Chris says, check your settings.
