Pandit Sethuraman was born on 31st May 1925 in a village near Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu. He had a keen interest in mathematics and astrology since his childhood. He graduated from the University of Madras and joined the Indian Audit and Accounts Service. He served as an auditor in various government departments and rose to the rank of Deputy Accountant General.
