    Hi.

Is there any Risc OS software that can process .ARW (Sony RAW files) and convert them to a more common format, such as JPEG?

I've tried DPlngScan 1.33 but it doesn't look at them.

There are some online converters, but as I have 76 images to convert, and
the free converters restrict the numbers you can convert without paying,
I'd rather find a solution I can use on here (if there is one...)

I have a program called rRaw by Anton Reiser and one called dcraw ported
    by John-Mark Bell.

Neither appears to work with the test file at https://www.imagefilesize.com/sample/downloads/HD-1080x1920.raw
    for what that is worth...

Thanks for the thoughts - I found rRAW 0.03 on my hard drive - now updated
to version 0.04, however, the thumbnail option works but when
double-clicking on an image the display is just a black rectangle, and
saving as JPEG just gives the same result.

I also appear to have dcraw, so I'll give that a go...

    (Later) won't even run...

    Ho hum...

Thanks Steve. I think it was supplied with this computer, so perhaps an
update is required. I'll take a look at Thomas's site.

There is a very old (and V0.01 alpha-stated) prog, called RawView (Raw
camera image file viewer), from Chris Gransden.
    Could be found here:
    https://www.cgransden.co.uk/downloads.html

    Perhaps worth a try...

Thanks for the suggestion, however it didn't recognise the files I have to convert.

Sorry to intrude in this thread with an aside... A little thought that re-occurred to me when I read this posting.

Years ago it's a good job I didn't 'hold my breath' over things that RISC
OS didn't or can't do, that I required at that time.

    I'd be a long time dead. :-)

Don't get me wrong, I've been using Acorn & RISC OS for 43 years and still
love using it for some things, but many years ago while using computers in
my business I realised, "Horses for courses" is the only way to go.

Even though I've been retired for quite a while now, I still use RISC OS
for a number of things, but swap OS (Windows) when needed.

Thus I don't get out of breath... ;-)

Although I do have a Windows 11 laptop, I very rarely switch it on these
days, other than to test something in VRPC. My other laptop that I tend
use more often runs Suse Linux(still not quite cut my Windows apron
strings yet!). Even then I tend to use my iPAD for most things I struggle
    to do on RISC OS.

So for me, bring this back on to thread. I would switch across to one of
my other devices to convert the Sony RAW image files to something I could
    then use on RISC OS.

I have just successfully tested dcraw 9.06 (15/Feb/2025) which contains
sony metadata (ex DSC03969/raw or /arw)
The file cited by Harriet cannot be decoded, the test was also done under dcraw Rasbian .
dcraw -i filename/raw (Identify files without decoding them)
dcraw -e filename/raw (Extract embedded thumbnail image) I get a Jpeg
    image.

    Happy new year

Installed and tried that - the TIFF image I got from the first file came
out monochrome, and the extracted JPEG image was flipped 90#, and colours
    were pretty washed out.

Meantime, I found a program on Linux called RawTherapee which extracted
the JPEGs I needed, and much better quality.

    Happy new year
