  • help searching through youtube for hp 8710 please

    Something is jamming my carriage on my HP 8710. There are a large number of videos on this, all of which say the same obvious things and none of which work.

    One guy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WD-x0LOXoB8 seems to get close by saying something is jammed too high underneath the head, but his solution doesnt seem to relate to the 8710.

    Does anyone have any ideas on how I should be able to clear any jam or reset the hardware to factory defaults on this HP8710 please? Something cycles during the turn-on but it isnt clearing the carriage jam??

    The only thing I have achieved to date is to change the error mesage from CARRIAGE JAM to THE PRINT HEAD CANNOT MOVE. I wonder if this represents anything of an advance?

    Only one not recommended, although working for me.

    Found a ten year old HP 6600 on the streets. Because I had no printer
    since decades I basically wanted to see how printers work on Linux today.

    Got a "print head jammed" error too. Wouldn't move at all. I used a small hammer and hit it several times to no avail. Thinking this will be a
    total loss I hammered it harder. To my surprise that solved the
    problem. And that the ink cartridges were more than 50% full. :-)

    So, if nothing helps and you're about to write it off, apply (also
    excessive) force to the print head.
