My old TV sound bar had become a bit balky, static.
So, bought a new/better one.
At this point I actually looked behind my TV - nice
old Samsung - and noticed the dust-covered lethal-
looking giant nest of WIRES.
I'd attached various audio devices to the TV before
over the years. When I got a new one I didn't bother
to remove the old - just put the new stuff on top.
This left me with a huge volume of SHIT ... most
still plugged in ... that I didn't even use anymore.
BOSE self-powered speakers, a big equalizer, a big
sub-woof, more, a couple things I don't even remember
buying or WHY.
Amazing there wasn't a fire.
Now what to do with the 12" sub-woof ??? It's too
big to fit anywhere.
The new sound bar comes with a "sub-woof" ... it's
kinda tiny however, but not TOO horrible. Tends to
exaggerate drum-beats. Was also difficult to find
setting where voice would be clear - mostly either
kinda muffled OR with an odd reverb-like effect.
Bought the TV initially for my mum ... who was
mostly deaf. She always turned it up to 99 and
sort of blew the internal speakers (DID find a YT
vid on how to replace them (LOTS of screws) and
even where to buy new ones). A difficulty with
Samsung TVs (MOST actually) is that the external
audio does NOT track the main TV volume. This
is a major pain ... and no I don't want to have
a dozen different control wands for every little
thing !
Hmmm ... a few resistors and a dual potentiometer
and I could tap into the existing speaker leads and
get a 1.5v-P2P output that DOES track the main volume.
It shouldn't be that hard though !
Anyway, spend hours unwinding/removing wiring and
old devices and a power bar that was literally
falling apart. Have a big box FULL of that shit
now and no clue what to do with it.
Final insult, the final act, pushing the big cabinet
back to the wall - slipped and nastily trashed my
old-farts thin skin. Saturday afternoon, too late
for a doc-in-the-box and the ER is way too $$$.
Sundays, FORGET any commercial docs. I'll have
to just see if the mess is healing or getting
worse. Rinsed it all under the faucet and then
globbed on antibiotic goop - that's usually the
most effective home treatment, not my first
rodeo so to speak. Oh, the local doc-in-the-box's
kinda suck now - "experts" I'd barely trust to
trim a fingernail and barely speak my language.
In one the doc was ARRESTED for molesting the
staff and patients !
In any case, how many wire-piles do YOU have ?
The usual rule is "If you can't SEE it then it
doesn't exist". Well, I'd spent a long time
not seeing ......
