• Microsoft Windows -- The Gift That Keeps On Taking

So Microsoft is promising to do better with the quality of the Windows
OS, pay more attention to usersrCO needs etc. Realistically, this is not
going to happen in anything more than a token way. The companyrCOs
never-ending search for profit is always going to win out in the end.

Just one example of the trends that would have to be completely undone
in order for the Windows supertanker to reverse course: someone has
done an analysis of the MSN Weather app that ships with Windows, to
find out why it consumes 1.2GB of RAM while not doing very much <https://www.tomshardware.com/software/windows/windows-11s-built-in-weather-app-hogs-more-than-1-2-gigabytes-of-ram-just-to-tell-the-forecast-memory-sucking-web-wrapper-filled-with-ads-masquerades-as-an-actual-application>:
itrCOs basically a web browser engine showing a bunch of websites. With
ads along with that, of course.

    Nothing wrong with profit.

But the ONLY reason MS is now announcing this is because Windows is tanking.
Linux is way up and Macs are way up. So MS is now embarrassed into trying to "fix Windows".

But it is many years too late. MANY years of "Windows is too big to fail" and "Everyone will just accept whatever shit we do with Windows because there is
no viable alternative". Shit like CoPilot. Shit like Windows 11. Shit like ads in Windows 11.

Shit like the absolutely astonishing fact that plugging in a fucking monitor - of all things - results in random software automatically downloading and installing. AND Microsoft is blaming LG for that!

How incredibly bizarre and insecure is that? What's next? MS blaming hackers for using other security holes in Windows?

I'm sure Kodak and Polaroid felt the same way 25 years ago. "We own the
camera business" and "We are too big to fail". Then digital cameras came along - and later phones - and now Kodak and Poloroid are both gone.

Yes, today there are still companies called "Kodak" and "Polaroid". But they are nothing compared to what they were 30 years ago.

This is where Microsoft is headed. They currently have no products that people want to buy today. The people who still use their products wish that the products worked the way they did 20 years ago.

That is not a recipe for future success.

That is part of why I always wanted to remove Edge from the machine.
Weather loads that and some other web components into memory the moment
you log into the machine. In exchange, you get extremely inaccurate
weather forecasting and a load of suggested articles based on your personalized algorithm, designed to keep you clicking rather than
working for as long as possible.

People who don't want to change their hardware or want to be able to
play games went the Linux route; those who just want their computers to
work right, don't play games and just want everything to work right went
to the Mac. There is no doubt to me that the market share of both Mac
and Linux increased because of the garbage Microsoft has been pulling,
but I do doubt that Linux is anywhere near 10%.

    Go soak your head. Idiot.

People do not choose GNU/Linux because it is just an alternative
to a system which they can no longer tolerate.

People choose GNU/Linux because it is the truly superior OS.

Winblows and Apphole still function extremely well, but GNU/Linux
is far superior from a professional and computer science
perspective -- and THAT is why people desire GNU/Linux.

Anyone who chooses GNU/Linux only because they are sick of Winblows
is just a cheap fucking MOOCHER without a valid opinion.

    Pure fucking drivel.

I hope that someone pushes you in front of a speeding bus.
