    OK, but this isn't a car, it's not really the same thing - using the

    You are insane. I know what it means. To answer your point, though,
    I would explain that Apple's side of macOS (excluding the Unix side,
    in other words) is crapware due to the fact that it is their less-than-brilliant attempt to make a GUI. The brain damage makes
    them too stupid to make their own OS kernel, and too dumb to make a
    polished user interface that would sell to someone like me. They are
    an inferior brand at an extravagant price.

    2) There is no way to change the GUI (desktop).

    My experience with MacOS is that it gets in my way. XFCE tends to
    stay out of my way.

    Wrong.-a Powershell is the Windows console.

    Nope. It absolutely is NOT.

    If it isn't that, then what *is* it? I'll wait an eternity for you to answer *that*.

    Two things:

    1) Powershell is available for Linux, so it isn't just a "Windows console". It's
    a _shell_, inferior to a POSIX shell, but still a _shell_.

    _[/home/scott]_(scott@lm)EfEo_
    $ uname -a
    Linux lm 7.2.0-rc7 #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Aug 9 22:08:45 PDT 2026 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    _[/home/scott]_(scott@lm)EfEo_
    $ pwsh
    PowerShell 7.4.6

    A new PowerShell stable release is available: v7.6.0
    Upgrade now, or check out the release page at:
    https://aka.ms/PowerShell-Release?tag=v7.6.0

    PS /home/scott> uname -a
    Linux lm 7.2.0-rc7 #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Aug 9 22:08:45 PDT 2026 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

    And then:

    2) I've articulated one way in which MacOS is inferior to Linux. (I guess Alan has a short memory.)

    _[/Users/scott/ngroups]_(scott@mac-studio)EfiA_
    $ cat ngroups.c
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <limits.h>

    int main (void)
    {

    printf("%d\n",NGROUPS_MAX);

    return 0;
    }
    _[/Users/scott/ngroups]_(scott@mac-studio)EfiA_
    $ ./ngroups
    16

    Short answer: that's anemic, because MacOS fills them
    up for some users:

    _[/Users/scott/ngroups]_(scott@mac-studio)EfiA_
    $ id
    uid=502(scott) gid=20(staff) groups=20(staff),12(everyone),61(localaccounts),79(_appserverusr),80(admin),81(_appserveradm),98(_lpadmin),701(com.apple.sharepoint.group.1),33(_appstore),100(_lpoperator),204(_developer),250(_analyticsusers),395(com.apple.access_ftp),398(com.apple.access_screensharing),399(com.apple.access_ssh),400(com.apple.access_remote_ae)

    Do you see?

    The usage is casual, which leads to confusion. PowerShell runs in WindowsTerminal (or cmd.exe formerly) which is a terminal emulator. On
    Linux, xterm, Konsole, and so forth are also terminal emulators. They
    support CLI and TUI operations but are themselves GUIs.

    With Linux people occasionally go off path during the installation and
    wind up with Ubuntu Server and of the other server editions. The typical response is 'WTF do I do now?'. They are in a text only console and
    that's all there is. A ssh into a tty session is similar.

    afaik there is no equivalent, even in Windows Server.
