I was reading a discussion on the listserv for the model T community
and, well, I had been considering modding my newly acquired Tandy 102 to
run CPM. I saw a guy on youtube describing how many applications run for
the platform and, well. I asked around. The most I got was that it has a
text editor similar to the one built into the laptop. There has to be
more. So I ask the community here what their favorite software is in the
    cpm world.

CP/M was the primary OS for microcomputers before MS-DOS.
There is a large variety of software available.
Even 'back in the day' users would build archives, such as Simtel-20. Thankfully, most of this has survived.

Right, so instead of asking for favorite software, how about most used?

Hands down it's WordStar for me.
    I learned on a vanilla CP/M 64K Z80A 4MHz box that were common in the early '80s.

I used SuperCalc a few times but never routinely (the CP/M competitor to Visicalc for the Apple ][).

We used CBASIC (also called CB80) and wrote all the software used to run our billing and print reports etcetera.

    so: WordStar
    CBASIC
    Supercalc

    Common software was:
    1) Word processing (like Wordstar)
    2) Spreadsheet (Like Supercalc)
    3) Database (Like DBASE II)
    4) Programming (like MBASIC or CBASIC, and ASM that came with CP/M)
    5) Utilities (like Disk76, Sweep, LU)
    6) Communications (like MODEM, XMODEM, BYE, and various RCP/M and BBS software)

Less common were specialty software like :
    a) programming in other languages (C, Pascal, Lisp, Forth, etc.)
    b) business packages (accounts receivable/payable, payroll, etc.)

    Hope this helps!

    Big time! Very informative.

I'm really interested in the spreadsheet. I use my model 200 as a daily
driver and don't really like msplan. But none of the major tools for the
model t's work with the 200 that I'm aware of.

My plan is to finish modifying my model 102. Currently just fixed all
its issues since I just got it off ebay. About to paint it.

I am starting to research getting cpm on that bad boy and going from
there. I want to use the 102 as a terminal with a vt100 expansion
card. Alot of model t users hack it that way.

Looks like CPM is a true masterpiece. I take it people are still
developing applications for the platform. I'd be interested in seeing
what database work I can accomplish.
