    I note there's a "Reserved Auto-Updates Space" of 11GB which I've never
    seen before.

How to get rid of this reserved space?

The name says it: The probable solution would be to turn off Auto-Update.

It is off. Although looking again I see a (new?) setting under "General->Software Update->Automatic Updates-> System Files" called "Automatically Install".

    Will disable and see.

The only thing that turns it off is to disable it entirely. I did have it
    on "download only".

I did a before and after on my ipad and this is a new feature of 26.2. "Reserved Auto-Update Space" didn't exist in 26.1.

    Stupid idea.

    BTW: iCloud exists.

    I know, but: reasons.

Sure. Each and every Upgrade or update comes as one file and is always
on top of what you already have on the phone. The space is only freed
after the successful installation of the new OS. By pure logic the space
can be freed if you do not plan updates in advance.

Yes I understand that. This reserved space setting is new, however, making
you lose even more space to iOS.

I encountered this problem. I offloaded unused apps as suggested and was able to update ro 26.2. But i don't yet know if I have lost anything valuable because it's no longer in the App Store. EfnR
Maybe I need to do some thinning. We shall see.
