I have no idea how important, or not, this is, as I use PulseSMS.
But most people likely use Google Messages, so you tell us.

*Google Messages rolls out new swipe for timestamps & reply gesture*
    <https://9to5google.com/2026/09/25/google-messages-timestamps-reply/>
"Previously, you could tap on a message bubble to see the sent time,
read receipts, and RCS lock icon. Meanwhile, swiping left would
let you send a direct reply.

A redesign today changes all that. To see timestamps, you can now
swipe left anywhere in a conversation. This also shows the RCS
encryption status. Being able to see all times instead of having
to tap the bubbles individually is an improvement."

swipe left still seems to archive message for me (which is usually done
by accident and I need to undo)

oh, wait i see it now, works when the conversation is open, not when the
    list of messages is open

    HI Andy,

There was more detail in the article, that I didn't paste, where what I'm simply trying to do with this thread is first, and foremost notify folks.

Secondly, since I don't use Google Messages but since I suspect most people
do use it, the second thing was to ask folks if it's a good change or not.

    No big deal though.
You'll either like it, hate it, or think it's just fluff.

Personally, I wish there were an open source messenger that handles RCS.
    Sigh.
