Q: What does your Android app launcher do that Nova Launcher doesn't do?
A: ????
After many years with Nova and even testing Microsoft Launcher as
replacement I switched to Niagara launcher a while ago. It is a
completely different approach which works way better for me than having multiple pages with icons arranged in grid.
What it does:
1) Show a home screen with only a limited number of apps (usually less
than 10, but you are free to add as many as you need) in vertical list
with icon and app title.
Having only the frequently used apps on the homescreen is more efficient
for me and Niagara launcher can also tell how frequent an app is used
and can suggest apps to be placed on the homescreen based on this, if
you want to.
2) A widget on top for time/weather and media player controls if one is
active. You can also add additional widgets if you like to - but so far
I never needed anything else than this. I prefer opening the related
apps to having the launcher filled with widgets which also need energy
and RAM to stay up to date.
3) Notifications displayed in the app list next to the app which created
the notification.
4) An alphabetic scrollbar at the side to navigate all installed apps
presented as an alphabetically sorted and grouped list.
It takes a bit to get used to this concept. But I don't think, that I
will ever go back to traditional "grid style" launchers any time soon.
